Missed phone call problem.

Hi, I'm with Virgin Media, missed a phone call on our landline, from an area we know so well..... so obviously I rang back - number not obtainable. Your gonna tell me it's a scammer and a spooffed number.

I did a check with 'Who called me' and sure enough one or two people have had the same number to call back..... normally I would have ignored or blocked the number BUT for thinking I may know the person..... I rang back, yeah call me a fool - I agree.

It was only the other day I had a unknown phone call from a different area, I blocked after looking it up. Just wondered what your thought was on this escaspade.  Dave

    Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’ve had with this call. The number does sound like a spam caller, If I'm honest and I would recommend blocking the number. The calls cannot be completely stopped but there are some ways that the calls can be combated, the information can be found here.

    Hi Steven_L, thanks for the input. Yes certainly have put a block on that number, trouble is if that number is spoofed someway they now know my number is active.... could sell it and make a few quid, guess I'll find out someway when the phone runs out of memory, got a few blocked in there, it was 50/50 I blocked it or rang back  I'll certainly take a peep at the link you provided thanks for that.  Many thanks, Dave

    It is quite common now for scammers to clone genuine numbers as well as spoofing unused ones. This tactic started when some phone companies started blocking incoming calls from the unused ones. Scam numbers are changed on a daily basis so blocking them has next to no effect. As you did not answer the call, the “bots” the scammers use recognise whether a person has answered or a voicemail message was triggered. So while you are still likely to get calls over the next week or so, you will not get bombarded unless you answered in person.

    Thanks for that info.... I did have a thought  they changed the numbers, I read somewhere they could monitor that 'fake' number. Dave
