Landline not ringing with incoming calls

Hi.  I have just joined this Community and hope that someone can help me with what seems to have been an issue on here in the past.

My landline doesn't ring when there's an incoming call, yet the display will tell me there's a call.

My sister can call me and I can pick up her call when the display shows me she's calling, but the handset will not show how long the call is going on for like it used to.

I have installed brand new cordless handsets today and I still have the same issue.

Do I need an engineer to come out?

    This reads like the telephone ringer volume has accidentally been turned off or set to minimum volume.

    Perhaps the fingers of a little fellow like my grandson have tampered with the telephone !
