Home Phone Switchover - can I just scrap telephone?

Just got an email to say my home phone switches on 20 August.  I have not used the landline for ages and it is only part of my package as it is more expensive to remove it.

Why can't VM just take the telephone off my services without it costing more?

In this case you don't care about the VM phone number.

If you had a cherished land line number and ported it to VM it becomes near impossible to port it back to BT or on to a VoIP provider without incurring a hefty early termination charge.

VM are using the land line as a way to snare customers.

    So pay more for less...

... utterly bonkers, especially now there isn't a phone line.

VM is locked into the 'bundle' model of pricing, despite the fact that cost-conscious customers are seeking ways to streamline their services and some services, such as landline, are gradually dropping out of use altogether for many people.

I am not with VM any more but I do sometimes check VM pricing to see what I would get as a 'new' customer.

In any and every option I can call up, I never see a landline option as part of the VM bundles offered to me any more.

I wonder if VM will now drop the conventional landline for new customers and just continue to milk the existing customers into having to pay for it as long as the old exchange equipment continues to run.

VM use "bundles" for pricing.  If's it's cheaper to have the phone then just take it.  Just don't plug a phone in.  It will make no difference to your Broadband ( and TV if taken ) service.  I had this setup for years without ever plugging a phone in.

  • Hi arrgee1991, thank you for your post.

It is the case that it often works out cheaper to have a landline included within your package, but if you'd like to discuss the options currently available to you, please call 150 (free of charge) from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone.

    Regards,
