Cheap Voip
Hi, My VM contract is up for renewal in August and I wondered if there were any barriers to stop me going for a true VOIP solution for my home phone? Will VM be awkward about releasing my number to the new provider?
I'm sure someone must have done this as VM charge 24p/Min out of bundle or £3 for 100 mins.
Interesting that the "landline" charge for the copper wire connection still stands, even though the wires are no longer used and the old PSTN switching is no longer being maintained
1. VM will port the number to a VOIP provider but expect them to drag their feet for months.
2 VM will not drop the monthly price by removing the telephone from your bundle, they will promptly allocate another telephone number o ensure they can continue charging.
For these reasons we did not transfer or two BT lines to VM, they went to Sipgate in 2017.
Remember to port a phone number it must remain in service constantly or the number port to the VOIP provider will fail and the number will be lost.
