Sky sports app issues

I have been watching the football on my iPad. The full first half was fine, and with my battery low, I turned off for half time and switched back on for the start of the second. 
however when I did, it wouldn’t work. It would only say apologies, we can’t load the page at the moment. 
other channels with play and work, just not any showing the football. 
it does however work on my iPhone, which is the same subscription.

 

I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, no success. This also happened last night with the football but worked once I reset the app.

    Same issues reported as above are still here. All was working without issue until middle of last week (approx.14th May).

    Works fine on my PC and phone, but not on my ipad and it only affects the live football matches. Just tried again tonight and same Apologies message. 

    I need to use the ipad first & foremost, so the other devices are not ideal.

    I've raised this on the Sky Forum, but someone there who's supposed to be a Sky 'Super User' and not an employee keeps telling me it's a Virgin issue, even though others there are reporting the same issue and are both Sky & Virgin customers.

    Downloaded the Sky Go app as someone had success on that route, but Sky is now asking me to upgrade my subscription to get Sky Sports and there's no option on that one to log in via the Virgin box, as there is on Sky Sports app.

    Just checked my storage on the ipad and I've used less than half of the 128GB available, so it's not a storage issue.

    Tried logging into Sky Sports via Safari & Chrome but I end up with the same message asking me to set up a subscription payment.

    Is there some technical reason why only live football matches are suddenly unavailable or are Sky & Virgin having silly squabbles in the boardroom?

      Thanks for the update bobartist, it appears that quite a few posters within this thread appear to be experiencing the issue on their respective iPads or iPhone and wonder if any recent software updates from Apple are perhaps the route cause of this issue.

      Personally, I'm an Android user and when looking into each Sky Sports channel, I've loaded up and streamed without issue.

      Do any other streaming services have any issues - not just with Sky Sports, but with the channels on TV Go?

      Is the phone you're using an iPhone or is this Android?

        Hi David,

        I have an ipad and iphone and it's only on the ipad that there is the issue - and then only with live football matches on the Sky Sports app. No other channels/apps/streaming services appear to be affected - eg TNT live games, no problem - and all was fine until about 10 days ago, for me, but I see that this was flagged up as an issue with some in February this year.

      Has anyone got any answers yet? I’m having the same issues can watch all sky sports channels except for live football. Been happening for a while now. Is this getting sorted?

        We've not been able to duplicate this here as it did work the other day when the live Scottish Women's football was on, that played perfectly. 

        Is this fault happening on multiple devices?

  • I've just come from the Sky Community having been been told somewhat unhelpfully that as I don't have a Sky account there's nothing they can do and I have to take this up with Virgin, even though several others (both Virgin and Sky customers) have picked up on my post there and reported the identical problem.

    So I'm reaching out to Virgin here. Do their (or Sky) engineers ever come on to these forums to check out issues and work on solutions - either directly, or in conjunction with each other?

    This was reported as an issue here in February, so surely someone in Virgin - or Sky- must have come up with an answer by now!

      Had the same issues all week. Only live football is affected. Golf, darts etc all ok. Very strange

        Also having exactly the same issues on my phone. It works at points during the day for sky sports football and main event, but as soon as a live game is on, it won’t let me watch.. anyone managed to get this resolved? 

  • I've had the exact same issue for the last 2 nights. Can watch matches on my Iphone, but not the Ipad, but other Sky Sports Chanels no problem. Same on screen message as OP. It's been fine up till a couple of days ago.

    Done all the usual stuff, deleting app, re-installing it, login to Sky Sports via the Virgin route etc.

    Tried different browsers, OS up to date etc.

    Any other suggestions please?

      Hey bobartist, thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear you cannot watch Sky Sports on your ipad.

      Have you gone over the device limit maybe?

      Is the ipad and the app on tis device fully updated?

        Hi Matthew,

        Still within my device limits and in any case, it's only the two (probably) most popular Sports channels with football on. And only when the matches are on. The channels become available when non-live sports are shown.

        App is up to date. Have deleted it (twice) and reloaded from App Store. Ipad OS is bang up to date.

        And also as with the OP, it works fine on my phone and my desktop.

        As you suggested to the OP, I'm also on equivalent Sky Community to see if there's any help there, but no luck so far, though a current Sky customer has now reported the same issue.

    We aren't able to assist with third-party app concerns; however, there may be members here who can offer help and support. 

    I would advise that if you haven't already, to also post on the Sky Community to see if they're able to offer further support.
