not getting what I am paying for 1gb as advertised

I like many many others and more to come I been on 1gb for a while now and never come close to getting the 1130 as advertised, most I have had is roughly 800/850mb, wired to my desktop pc and yes It supports gigabit ethernet, all drivers are fully up to date.

I had a engineer a while back come out said the cables under the road outside my house need replacing, but never heard back from virgin as I was told someone would of been in touch.

I had 500mb before I upgraded to 1gb and the speeds was always over 500mb and couldn't complain, but trying to get over 1gb seems to be an issue for virgin It's as though they don't want to let me have it.

why should I continue paying for something I am not getting

if a representative could contact me that would be great

  • Hmmm I have heard about that, who's to say vm use that to decide that somebody's internet is fine, when in fact it isn't.

It's like a get out of jail free card for them, I'll try it but I'm very dubious about it

If paranoia is your problem, you may be in the wrong forum.

The whole reason for the Samknows Realspeed test is to independently test the speed to the Hub and then to test the speed at which the customers device can download / upload data with the Hub.

All too often the result is fine to the Hub and the customer discovers the last thing they wanted to hear ... their own kit is the problem and screaming at the ISP is not going to help.

Should it turnout the speed to the Hub is well off the mark, that suggests a service defect that likely affect others in your street.

  • I ran the Sam knows best one 3 times, results are up and down, speed test one tells a different story

The Samknow client is built in to the Hub's firmware and is part of Cisco. It's been around a long time so very known.  If you are querying why you don't get 1140 to your PC, it's because you can't with a 1Gb connection due to the limitations of ethernet.  If you want this, you will need to upgrade to 2.5Gb NIC and switch if needed.  Also note any switch will need to be managed as the EEE settings will have to be disabled.

950/104 ... is as good as it gets for a computer with 1Gb/s network adaptor.

To reach 1130 requires the computer to have a 2.5Gb/s network adaptor.
