lower speeds than paying for

will the speeds fluctuate after first inisitial  installation of virgin media,  for the next few days?

Tested over ethernet connection to several different speed test sites

  • Hi Palm771

No, VM don't have a stabilisation period for the speed to settle down.

Even using the same speed test site when measuring the connection you will find the results vary. It will also vary using different browsers,

You should do a speed test using https://samknows.com/realspeed/ which measures the speed to your hub and to the device you are testing.

No. What you have now is what you will get.

Post your speed test results, without including any personal data.

You can check the speeds you have compared to what should be achieving on the following page

      https://www.virginmedia.com/broadband/our-speeds-explained

Looking at that your downlaod speed could be a tad higher, but there are no problems with your upload speed.

I tend to find that the results via a browser using speedtest.com can be lower than expected, this could be due to the browser itself, the number of tabs open, using a VPN or anti virus program, or other programs running in the background.

Do you have windows? If so download the ookla app (this is speedtest.com's app) and check the speeds using that.

Your advise was to try another web browser, I tried microsoft edge browser, and ran the speed test google provides, and it came back showing me 500mbps which I am paying for.

So you are correct trying a different web browser can make a difference

The whole point of the Realspeed test is it excludes your computer and browser from the speed test.
