New 1 Gb install - upload limited to ~85 Mbps

This thread is why people across the UK will always say to avoid Virgin Media. The company culture is broken where an engineer on the ground can say "there is a fault, the area doesn't have enough upstream channels to support the service we have sold" but because somebody in an offshore back office somewhere has closed the complaint out, everybody has to pretend it's all fixed.

Yes, I am still facing the exact same issue.

If people would stop closing faults or marking them as resolved before speaking to me this would be a lot simpler!

I don't think you have enough upstream channels to ever give you the speed that VM have said your service tier is provisioned at.

How does RFoG with about 3 metres of coax between the modem and the ONU need attenuators to mess around with the signal levels? Can't the ONU just auto-range things into a sensible place?

I had a call from a person in networks this afternoon, he has acknowledged the fault and given me a reference number. We had a decent chat, he said it is a widespread issue and may be national for RFoG installs and not just my area, and he's getting the right people involved.

Team Virgin - since I have a fault number, will I receive partial credit on to my bill? 

The process to asses any credits on an account would be to raise a complaint first so we can address this.

I'm not sure how else I can explain it, from my perspective the fault is still present. I cannot get the upload speed as it states in my account, the issue was confirmed by your own network team, and they gave me a fault number which I provided via PM.

Just to reiterate, as I will likely be asked this again - tests over wired ethernet, cable changed, hub rebooted, hub tested in modem & router mode, factory reset hub, different computer tested. Never once is the upload above 85 Mbps.

Your system is wrong, so kindly open the ticket again and state that it is not fixed. It seems strangely convenient that after I pursue bill credit, the fault is magically closed. Did Gareth the assigned network engineer who called me close the fault? 

Otherwise we will go around in circles, an engineer is booked (again), they plug in their test kit to the coax (again), and they say they see the same issue (again), and report it to networks (again). Vastly wasting everyones time.

Eventually I get fed up and email VM's CEO, and a proper complaint handler gets assigned to this and it will end up properly being tracked.

Ok - pictures are clear. Your DOCSIS mode is 3.1 which means that the heavy work is done by the single upstream and downstream channels; the other channels assisting.

The effective speed of the D3.1 is constrained by the actual speed of the slowest D3.0 channel because they all aggregate at your modem. 

In the upstream case, your modulation at 64QAM is the highest available for the D3.0 protocol. The symbol rate is at max too. So theoretically, there is nothing to impair your upstream. 

The power level is fine - not surprising since the signal only travels as far as the ONT which then converts to fibre. 

Your 80 Meg upstream constraint thus cannot be explained by anything obvious in your stats. 
Any neighbours you can consult? Area proof is useful. If they have similar issues, then either there is congestion at an optical node (which VM can easily detect; or there is a rate limiting setting made at the VM end; or there is an area fault invisible to the stats because they measure power to/from the ONT, although SNR is based on the full transit path. If there was noise on the upstream, then the modulation would be automatically lowered commanded from thevVM end. So noise isn’t the problem. 

I do think you are entitled to ask the question why you can never reach 100 Meg upstream. 

Btw, the Status reports that 3x COE are allowed. Normally that should be just 1.  If you still have the Hub 4 and an additional cox port ( via a splitter) it should work although it night need activation by phone call.

I have investigated this for you and can see that after advice from Principal and Technical Site engineers who have discussed within their peer group they have been advised to pass to IP edge as although 6 ATDMA upstreams deployed, d3.0 and d3.1 macs are only using 4 of these 6 and this is the limiting factor on upload speed. Config / bonding groups seem to be there for modems to use 6 upstreams however need to be adjusted to allow for d3.1 modems / higher speed.

They should have this resolved soon for you.
