Difference between Ookla and Samknows/realspeed speed tests

I recently upgraded to an M500 package from M250 and using Ookla speed tests have seen no improvement.

After a couple of days I called VM tech support and they suggested using samknows/realspeed to check and it did indeed show download speeds in excess of 500mb whilst repeated tests with Ookla still show no more than 280mb.

All tests were performed on a modern laptop connected with a Cat5 ethernet cable direct to a Hub3 router with nothing else connected ( both wired and wireless )

I realise these samknows tests are designed to work with specific routers with some sort of embedded software and actually show the speed at the router as opposed to what the browser is showing but why the massive difference ?

Surely the Ookla tests should show a bigger improvement ?

Any help would be appreciated

Please run the FULL tests on www.samknows.com/realspeed and post the results.  This should be done with a direct wired connection to the Hub.  Once done we can comment.   SamKnows firmware is indeed imbedded into the VM Hubs for this purpose, to show the speed to the Hub. After the Hub any speed issues are up to the user to investigate.

      Thanks for the reply

This was the result from Ookla via browser and the one below by Ookla app

Can't easily re create the original tests with samknows/realspeed because I've switched back to modem only mode on the Hub3 and it would involve another reset.

When I tested it though the download speed on samknows/realspeed was well in excess of 500mb whilst Ookla was showing less than half of that. As I said earlier in test mode I only had 1 laptop connected with a Cat5e cable and nothing else wired or wireless

Poor performance of the laptop or desktop computer ... or very often due to use of Wi-Fi

I recently upgraded to an M500 package from M250 and using Ookla speed tests have seen no improvement.

So when on M250 the download speed was around the 123Mb/s mark. A speed increase from VM to the Hub 3 would not be expected to produce any download improvement as prior to the upgrade some other (still present) issue is the limiting factor.

That could be the laptop. .Complex security packages and any use of a VPN can drastically limit.

If the laptop is booted into Safe Mode + Networking does its speed test result improve markedly ?
