1gig upload speed issue

Hi - I’ve had 1Gig fibre for a few years now but my upload speed seems to have waned somewhat.

I can’t get more than 24.5Mbps.

I don’t use the hub 4 as my router and have a tp link ax73 as the router sited in the center of my house and then a second router running as easy mesh.

Any clue what’s going on here?

  • How are you measuring the speed?

Check for local faults on 0800 561 0061

Post your hub stats here from 192.168.100.1

Disable QoS on the mesh and update firmware.

Also try dismantling the mesh completely - retesting speed as you reassemble step by step.

You need to put your Hub back to router mode and run the FULL samknows test wired.

VM will not do any troubleshooting whilst your Hub is in modem mode btw.

  • Thanks all - I’ll get it back into router mode and run the test in the morning

FWIW at the moment I have this in the stats - looking at the upstream that seems to be saying I should be getting 100+

  • ChatGPT seems pretty convinced it’s due to the wireless back haul of how my ax73 and ax54 are mixing as nodes. FWIW I do actually have the ability to connect them to each other but it’s via an Ethernet switch and when I have tried to do this the whole thing just fails and I get wireless dropouts so I am only using wireless backhaul

Connect PC to hub in modem mode instead of router and test speed

samknows test may show good to router mode but what the point if you want to use the internet like you buy a Ferrari but you don't get the keys

  • Didn’t know you could do that but will find a very long Ethernet cable round here somewhere then 😀

Samknows tests do not work in modem mode.  The SK client is built into the Hubs firmware and only works when the Hub is in Router mode.  Vm will insist in Router mode anyway so best to set it up now.

  • Ok I did put it into router mode but samknows would work anyway when I did. However I did a different speed test whilst connected direct to the hub and the upload is still capping at 24.5.
I think I just need to contact VM don’t I and go through support?

  • No status issues. I did a factory reset on the hub 4 and disconnected the ax73 router. I actually then did get the full upload speeds on WiFi when attached to the hub.

its when I then switch it to modem mode and turn back on the ax73 it then seems to limit the upload.

So are my settings somehow restricting it. Bit of a minefield now

  • Yes sorry realised I haven’t replied to people suggesting this - it is disabled. I’m really at a loss in getting 950mbps on download just on WiFi so really odd the upload if throttling

      Hi marsman802

      Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your concerns with your upload speeds.

We aren't able to support third-party equipment concerns. If the service and upload speeds are working as they should be without the third-party router in the network, then we recommend reaching out to the TP-Link support forums as well to see if anyone has had a similar issues as yours.
