Hi, we have just upgraded from 250mb speed to 1Gb - the WiFi speeds are now slower than on the previous 250mb package?
ethernet it full speed, just WiFi is slower, we are using the same Hub 5 router, nothing has change in the home.
we have had a few results of around 300mbs on WiFi speedtest, but usually around 150 mbps?
I was expecting WiFi speeds of somewhere near the 600mbs and upwards.

I appreciate your advice, but I work in IT and understand WiFi and the steps to take.
We have a hub 5, it's been in the same spot for the last 4 years (approx), it's no where near any water, we don't have a fish tank, we don't have cordless phones, it's no where near a TV as it's in an upstairs hallway where it's always been.
I did mention that I can be sat right next to the hub and get speeds as as low as 30 - 40 Mbps.
I've already got and been using the virgin connect app, as long as the speeds are higher than 30Mbps it's says "all looks great"
I've used the virgin speed tool via accessing the router settings using an iPad pro which in the post got decent WiFi speeds before the upgrade and I'm sat next to the hub and it tells me to move closer to the hub as the connection strength is low. I can't get any closer.
There have been times if I'm within sight of the hub a couple of meters away that I get WiFi speeds of 500, but only a few times.

Install the Apple AirPort application on the iPad and in settings allow for a network scan. Run app and it will show all the WiFi signals with their channel and signal strength. You should get a figure of 30 to 40 right next to the VM hub.
Basically, I can sit in the same seat, use the same device, and get a lower WiFi speed now that I’ve upgraded the package/contract.
old contract m250 - WiFi speeds pretty much 240 - 250 Mbps.
new contract 1Gb - WiFi speeds 110Mbps.
nothing….. NOTHING has changed other than the upgraded contract and the price.
What is the device? Can you check what WiFi band it is using? The SamKnows test shows 1Gb to the Hub so we need to check why the device is slower.
What Hub did you have before? Was it a Hub3? If so it is an older ac (wifi 5) Router and the newer Hub 5 is ax (wifi 6) so it could be an issue with this?
An earlier post points to it being a tablet. Which model etc I know not. Saying that it does sort of all point to a dodgy hub. I wonder if it's a reconditioned job.

Maybe the change of speed config on the hub was also unknowingly accompanied by some other change in the hub settings such as firmware, factory reset or change in wi-fi config.
No reply as yet to carl_pearce's query on 22/8 ref the 'Connected devices' screen from the hub showing how the devices are connecting to wi-fi.
The Pixel 6 and iPhone 12 should be capable of the best wi-fi speeds from the Hub 5. I think I would concentrate on one of those devices and try some changes to see what best speed could be achieved.
The devices are used outside the home, I tested at work and speeds are only affected at home.
Devices are fine in other words.
I don't doubt the devices are working OK but something has possibly changed with the VM hub setup after your speed increase
'Connected devices' would/should tell you which frequency each device is using to connect. For max speed you need to ensure all devices (if capable) are connecting to 5GHz. An individual device may, however, choose to connect to the strongest signal which may well be 2.4 GHz unless it is set to 'prefer' 5GHz.
Once you have confirmed all devices are always connecting to 5 GHz reliably you can then look at experimenting with the wi-fi settings for 5GHz such as channel width, smart wi-fi etc. to see if changing any of those can improve your speed.

This is an Xbox One Series X, about 3 meters from the hub 5, with a wireless strength of 94% I expect better speeds than this as I'm paying for a 1Gb package. There wasn't any point in upgrading was there. Download speed of 163Mbps is not good.

I pay for 1000Mbps and get 160Mbps and Virgin told me only to get in touch if it drops below 30Mbps.
I just wanted to let you know so you don't get the same poor experience I'm getting.
This speed test was ran on an Xbox One Series X not far from the hub 5. Speed 163Mbps on a 1000 Mbps plan? It isn't good enough.
