Hi, we have just upgraded from 250mb speed to 1Gb - the WiFi speeds are now slower than on the previous 250mb package?
ethernet it full speed, just WiFi is slower, we are using the same Hub 5 router, nothing has change in the home.
we have had a few results of around 300mbs on WiFi speedtest, but usually around 150 mbps?
I was expecting WiFi speeds of somewhere near the 600mbs and upwards.

We are using a VM Hub + two Wi-Fi Access Points, to covers 12 rooms over 2 levels.
Perhaps you need to consider extending your Wi-Fi network too.
The post omits to tell us what the Wi-Fi device is or what speed was on M250.
Seeing 300 Mb/s post upgrade could well be the limit of the Wi-Fi device,
for sure 300 Mb/s would not have been achieved when on M250.
We would consistently get WiFi speed test results of around 250 on the old package M250 using google pixel 6 phone, iPhone 12, laptops. This was using the hub 5 ( we were originally given the hub 3 but the WiFi couldn’t reach lots of areas in our home so we were given the hub 5 which did )
Since upgrading to 1Gb Volt the speed results are now 120Mbps using the exact same devices and the same hub5 etc in the same rooms.
It’s only around 300Mbps if I stand right next to the Hub 5. Which is upstairs in corridor. The Ethernet is full speed.
it’s not the biggest deal, I just expected a lot better, the advertising is all based around fast WiFi speeds, and yes, yes, the small print says …..bla bla, but small print is what dodgy salespeople use to rip people off. I expect honesty and transparency from a decent company. Is this too much to expect.
I suppose the answer is, make better routers with stronger WiFi.
There are legal requirements for wifi power, so it is limited by intent. Usually a single router will not cover a property fully and additional wifi access points are required. The suggestion by Client62 to use extra wifi kit is valid. I have 3 additional AP’s to provide service throughout the house.
He said his WIFI is now slower after the multi Tier upgrade 925Mb/s to 1Gb/s) so has little to do with what version and WIFI 5 on the HUB3 got me over 600Mb/s so WIFI 6 will be the same or better depending on his devices.
He is not the first to have this issue.
Anyone who pays for faster broadband in the hope of getting faster WiFi is likely to be disappointed.
Nope wifi is not that good for speed and due to how wifi is faster rate does not help and can make it slower due to a hardware buffer send traffic out that is full then what the wifi can send out to a device.
What package does your online account say you are currently on?

VM only guarantee a Wifi speed of 30Mb.
The Hub 5 is Wifi 6 and to get the faster speeds your devices need to be Wifi 6 as well. Highest speeds are on the 5Ghz band with a channel width of 160.
The 150 you are seeing is most likely 5Ghz using 20Mhz width, with the 2.4Ghz band it would be even lower.
95% of users these days are wireless everything, so I suppose if you get a decent strength 30Mbps WiFi speed there's not much point paying for faster speeds.
RE: The advert on tv with the Goat & Walrus - they forgot to add a cable sticking out the back of them.

Sorry to hear of your concerns with your WiFi speed since upgrading.
WiFi speeds can be affected by many different factors, some of which are out of your's and even our control. We look to guarantee at least 30 Mbps, so with the speeds you're getting, this would be in line with our guarantee.
Device limitations would also play a lot into what WiFi speeds you would get to the device, and as the Community members have kindly advised, the different bands of WiFi (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) have different results as well, depending on their settings.
Should you see that your WiFi is below 30mbps, please do seek further support, and we can investigate further if you need.
