Who to speak to for new cable run

I live in a close with 7 houses, the first of which has Virgin media due to their location to the nearby foot path.

There are at least 2 others within the close that would like faster internet (Virgin seems to be the only option).

When we check, it's not available for our addresses - however - we know the first house already has it.

I'm happy to pay for someone to run a cable to my door, as there is already trunking from existing telecoms in place from a man hole to our front door.

The issue is, I can't seem to find anyone other than an off shore call centre that will take my call or respond to me.

Does anyone have any pointers as to who I can call/email with regards to this, or is able to share their experience and findings in doing something similar?

TIA Adam

  • Hi adammartin1981

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you've not been able to speak to someone regarding servicing your property.

Have you spoken with the sales team and have they advised if they're able to send a site surveyor or spotter out to see if the property can be serviced? These can only be sent if there has not been a recent survey. Sales can be contacted on 0800 183 1234.

Thanks for that - I'll give them a ring on the number you gave - but I don't hold out much hope as I filled in the form and no one has got back to me.

Sales can't help as 'it's not servicable'.

He wasn't aware of any other contact points that we can use to get an engineer to scope the area.

If anyone knows of any other numbers, or private companies we can use to establish whether we can receive virgin (or to route the cables), the please let me know.

    Very Insightful Person

Usually if streets are missing from the checker it is for 1 of 2 reasons:

    1. The road is private & not under local authority control. This would require a lot of wayleave agreements with all residents.
    2. The houses were built since the cable build was completed. In most of the country the cable build is over 30 years old & is too expensive to expand, if indeed the capacity is available.

VM is in the process of going full fibre over the next few years, & you have a far better chance of being connected to the new network when it goes live.
