VM External Cable Feed in garden to Omnibox on house.

The feed is a co-joined (double) attached cable which I presume is telephone & Internet feed which runs from the street into my garden, upto the junction box fixed on the outside of my house, before it then enters into my property.

We only use TV & Internet. Telephone not connected.

When we first signed up to VM we received our internet & TV via a cable 'piggybacking' thru next doors omnibox.  We were unawares. The neighbours were annoyed.  The external cable since then has been independently servicing my property. Which when laid in my garden, leading to my wall socket, it is surface 'mounted' so to speak. In other words, it rests just under the surface if not, on top of my grass.  It is a tad concerning to say the least with dogs that like to chew 'things' such as surface laid cables.

I have now dug a deep(ish) trench in line with where the cable lies with the intention that it can be dropped in the said trench but it needs extending to drop into the void.

Would VM be able to assist in the relocation & extension of this cable bearing in mind I have just re-newed/upgraded my contract..? Or, is it viable for a DIYer to disconnect this cable feed & get a jointer cable to extend the current cable..?  I could also benefit from having a new/replacement Omnibox as my current one is a bit shabby.

Any suggestions & pointers would be most welcome.  Thanks.

Do not do any DIY work on VMs coax cabling. It could cause RF noise ingress that affects the performance not only of your connection, but potentially the entire street.

VM will charge £25 for a technician callout, & will likely fit a gel pack connector to extend the existing cable.

  • Thanks.  Do I go thru the VM Call Centre switchboard & book for a Service Technician to attend to address this issue..?

      Hi nigeats65
      Welcome to Community Forums.
Sorry to hear of your concern with the cabling in your garden.
Are you able to provide an image of the cable area that concerns you? With this, we'll be able to assist further on what works may be needed to investigate your request.

  • Hello Carley_S.

    Thanks for your response.

PSA photos of my current cable situation. Where the blue mat is, is where it comes into my garden from the street feed. On the photo where it shows a trench dug at a right angle, I want to get the cable to follow a different but safer & more convenient path.

Currently it lies under the black guttering for safety as 1, I do not want to dig or run the lawnmower over it & 2, I don't want the dog as shown in one of the photos to chew it as the cabling is to close to the surface.

The ideal path that I would like the VM cabling to follow is along the fence line. Then return at the end of fence back into the omnibox where it currently is.

Hopefully you can assist with this request.

    Regards, nigeats65.

  • Thanks newapollo

I can clearly see that from your screen snip. I was using my phone & that particular icon doesn't show..! So I thought it was either restricted or there was a 'special method's to upload. I will endeavour to find a more suitable bit of hardware to send photos.

    Many thanks.

    nigeats.

On my phone ( at least ) , you "hold" that bar of icon's and drag it to the left.  This should allow you to see all the icons including the photo one.

  • Current layout of my exposed internet feed. Preferably want to run it along the shown fence so that it is somewhat protected.
