a bit more detail might help - i assume the newer omnibox is the recent install - is the actual box on your or your neighbors wall and is the cable run under your slate bed
if thats correct it looks like they have just taken the easy route [as always] - if its your slate border they should have asked at the very least and really should have got wayleave permission
But this is VM or one of their contractors who dont usually bother with permissions or politeness and are happy to take the easy way out
wait here for staff who in truth can do very little - they can pass it up the chain and will likely be ignored - that being the case you have choices
1 - put up with what it is if you dont want to upset the people next door
2 - pull the cable from under the slate are trail it over your neighbors property if thats possible
3 - get the wire cutters out and remove it
other than that you are likely to get little to no help - they will delay doing anything and mess you about in the hope you give up and go away

The slate area and grey upstand brick is my boundary, VM contractor definitely took the easiest solution and installed it right in the middle of my garden. The box looks like it has been installed in the right place.

If you have permitted VM equipment on your property, they will take this to mean they can do whatever they want there. It will make this more difficult. Is your neighbour aware of the problem?
