Unprotected Virgin Broadband Cable

We recently had some garden work done & the garner told us he nearly put a spade through our broadband cable. It runs across the surface with no protective sheath. How do |I| go about getting this sorted before they lay down the slate, any help much appreciated!

Report it as a fault on 150 if you have a Virgin Mobile, or 0345 454 1111 from others. Judging by the amount of slack, a technician should be able to joint the cable without too much bother. You are usually looking at 2 -5 working days if you are on a residential contract before it gets fixed.

Shouldn't the cable be underground in green plastic ducting ? I know mine is but it was installed in the mid 1990s. Came across it once when planting daffodil bulbs(!),  but it must have been at least 10 inches below the surface. No danger of going through it  because of the plastic ducting.

Maybe standards have slipped and installations are done as cheaply/quickly as possible now.
