Told available then not available?!

Hi folks,

I spoke to the virgin media online chat as the postcode checker said I can get virgin services in my post code. The online agent offered me a package with a credit. The next day I went to set it up and was told it’s not available at my address. It’s super frustrating that different people say different things. The virgin services were installed in 2023 but 18 months on I’m still not able to sign up and nobody can say why this is the case. Has anyone managed to find a department to look into this? The slew sales team said there was nobody they could suggest and I should just wait, presumably another 2 years for them to let me know.  Feeling very frustrated.

The postcode is only a rough guide to available connections. You could try calling VM Sales on 0800 183 1234  If they are working

  • Thanks for your help. I spoke to sales by live chat yesterday and they said it’s available, today they said it’s unavailable. I don’t understand what would have happened if I’d placed and order and chosen a delivery date yesterday when I’m told it’s not available today.

Depends who you speak to and how interested they are in checking.

What about the immediate neighbours each side, are they shown as available? If it's only the one house that's shown as unavailable it might be possible to arrange a visit to check.

  • It’s a bit of a mystery, they installed it in my close last year but it seems they stopped at my neighbour. They said they would install it at my address at a later date but 18 months later and nothing has changed. It’s frustrating that you can’t get many answers to these things, especially as I got some hope when the sales team said things were available now.

If you are off the main road that makes a difference. There could be a number of reasons why they stopped at your neighbour, and those reasons will still apply now. It could be that you are too far from the street cabinet in the main road, or the costs for digging more of the close were too high.

Is the close a private road? That complicates matters further.

You may have to look for alternatives. Have you checked with Openreach when they will be installing FTTP in your postcode?

  • Thanks for all your help, my block of houses is about 5 meters from my neighbour’s connection point and the cabinet is about 20 meters away. I signed all of the documents to say they could do any digging they’d like. I think you’re right, sadly there’s no open reach FTTP plans here so you can imagine how frustrating it is knowing there’s a virgin connection just a few meters away.

  • In summer 2023 Virgin dug up our street and installed connections, however after signing all the way leave documents the installation did not proceed further than my neighbour in the terrace block next to my own (which is about 5 meters away). Initially they emailed to say they would soon turn on connections to my postcode but now it says it’s not coming. Has anyone had any luck requesting this sort of situation to be looked in to? I’ve had no luck finding out why they stopped work and didn’t go any further. It’s incredibly frustrating. I’ve been holding off signing a new contract with BT in case they finish the work but getting a straight answer has been impossible. Can anyone offer any words of wisdom? Am I better off giving up?
