PreInstall Work??

I am a prospective new VM customer and after reading some of the preinstall woes i am concerned.

I ordered by VM setup on 31st July 2025, received all my contract info etc and even managed to setup and link my account using the bing method! I got a text message on the 2nd August 2025 advised that preinstall work was completed and I'm on track for my requested install of the 19th August 2025. So when I got back to my flat I checked the outside and as I am on the top floor i see no cables or brown boxes running up to my property unlike someone on the ground floor who has a brown VM box on there outside wall.

Should I be concerned???

My existing BB is due to be turned off on the 19th when the install is to be completed!

Thanks

Well I would say yes! Tell me how high up is your flat? Because notoriously VM’s contractors wont work above first floor level.

Now, hypothetically, the VM installation all goes sideways and simply doesn't happen for $reasons? Where does that leave you? Just in case, can you extend your existing broadband contract on a month by month basis? Yes I know that will cost you money, but what is the cost to you of having no internet access at all?

My flat is on the second floor and it looks like 3 other flats have cables coming up from the ground and into there living rooms, no brown boxes on the outside mind you. Im guessing this is virgin.

Think I'll give the pre install team a call and see what's happening.

I might just have to stay with Sky then if virgin can't deliver.

The standard advice on here, based on many cases of people being left without broadband, is to not cancel your existing broadband service until Virginmedia has connected you and you are happy that it is working correctly.

Sound advice from jpeg1   do not cancel any other supply until VM is up and running and fully tested, and not the 14 day cancellation window.  With it being on the 2nd floor, unless there is a distribution cabinet in the flats, I very much doubt if VM will install at that height.

I have to cancel my Sky TV myself which I will hold off doing for now, as for the BB it was done with the switch service so it shouldnt be cancelled until VM confirm all is good?

I looked again outside and can see every flat except mine has a a cable going to their living area from points in the ground, so it would seem they have done this before.

I tried calling the Preinstall Team but get get a voice message saying "you were called by the VM team today, no need to call back someone will call you" or words to the effect.

I think its time to cancel!
