New Customer - M350

I found cheaper ‘faster’ deals but I was happy with M350 as the image used on the website was the Virgin Media Hub 5 and I could book an engineer sooner than the other providers. However, I’ve just noticed on the website it says the images are for illustrations purposes only. All of the speeds had the Hub 5 image except for M125, so I assumed Hub 5 was available for all packages except M125 - To be honest, I probably would have chose M125 if it had the Hub 5 image. Does anyone know which hub I will receive as a new customer with M350?

  • Thanks all for commenting. I spoke to Virgin’s live chat today and they were very helpful. I mentioned that Vodafone are offering Wifi 6 routers as standard now with slightly higher speeds for the same price and the live chat team kindly offered a Hub 5. Unfortunately the Hub 3 was already on order so once I’m connected I just need to get back in touch with them to arrange delivery for the Hub 5 and for the Hub 3 returned, they emailed me a ref number and proof of what’s been discussed :)

My parent’s property has a Hub 3 and even after being replaced, the signal drops quite quickly once you move away from the hub. Just would have liked a Wifi 6 capable hub as I have a couple of Wifi 6 capable devices :)

If there is an existing VM connection at your address they will send you a self install pack. You won't know which Hub until you open it.

If it's a new installation it will be whatever the technician has in the van. You might be able to persuade them.

Thank you, when signing up my only option for all providers was to book an engineer. The previous homeowner had broadband so not sure why I need an engineer but Virgin could come out in 2 where Openreach providers were quoting 6 weeks, so at least they can come sooner :)

I'd prefer an engineer to do the initial install, they can check the signal levels are ok and provide you with a longer coax cable if that would be convenient and supply any missing bits that the previous customer may have kept or returned.

The only installs where you can guarantee to get a Hub 5 is if you have a full fibre (XGS-PON) service incoming, as the Hub 5x is the only full fibre hub VM has.

Above 600Mb it can be a Hub 4 or 5 in DOCSIS areas.

Thank you, I spoke to their live chat today and mentioned Vodafone are offering a Wifi 6 router and 500mb for the same price - only down side is that installation will be 2 weeks later than Virgin (as long as there aren’t any delays). The person on live chat was very helpful and has kindly arranged for a Hub 5 box to be issued :)
