Installation to block of flats

Hi,

My road recently had fibre installed by Nexfibre and Virgin Media services are now showing as available using the postcode checker for all the houses and maisonettes on the road. I am a leaseholder for one of a block of 6 flats, and these are all showing as unavailable.

The management company seems to have no issue with allowing installation to take place. How can I arrange this with Virgin Media?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

  • Hi Dan,

To arrange Virgin Media installation for your flat, you can contact Virgin Media directly and explain your situation. Since the management company has no issue with the installation, you might need to provide them with permission from the management company. You can also check if Virgin Media offers a self-installation option or if an engineer visit is required.

Best of luck with your installation!

The postcode checker shows as services unavailable at this address - is it possible to arrange this to be changed?

      Hi Anonymous

      Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thank you for your interest in joining Virgin Media. It's usually a different connection and installation needed for flats, more so if there are many flats within the building, rather than a house that has been converted.

There'd be a reason as to why, at this time, we've left the flats unserviceable. This would've been accessed by a site surveyor/spotter who would advise if this was possible, if permissions to do so are all granted and if this is within budget.

If there hasn't been a spotter/site surveyor out recently, which I presume there has been if this is a new expansion/upgrade work, you can speak with our pre-installation team on 0800 052 1734 to see if one can be sent to check for serviceability.

Thanks for this reply. I spoke to the team on that number and was told nothing could be booked as the flats are unserviceable. Is there any other way to get something booked in? Happy to process an order/commit to payment prior to an install.

@Carley_S is there no way to progress this further with any internal teams? Bit disappointing, but I’ll try one of the other fibre providers in the area.

If the flat has been registered as unserviceable and there is no option at this time to send out a site surveyor as one has been recently, then there is nothing we'd be able to do on our side with any other internal team. Appreciate this is not the response you're looking to hear. We hope that we'll be able to offer you services at that address in the near future. In the meantime, you can register your interest in joining us here and if anything changes, we'll be in touch to let you know: virg.in/checker

I’ve spoken to the management company and other residents and no survey has been made by Virgin Media at any point. There are accessible cable trays with plenty of capacity and structured cabling installed to every flat, so no technical reasons against it.

Very disappointing, would've liked Virgin TV + broadband, but with how difficult it is to get a hold of anyone at VM it’s probably for the best. Will just wait for Openreach to install later this year.

If VM are saying the property is unserviceable there will be one or more technical reasons for this. It won't be an arbitrary decision that can be reversed by a chance of policy.
