Cable box installed without permission

I was home all day and no one knocked on my door to ask permission to attach a cable box right next to my patio door. They have also laid a fibre cable under my garden without permission. They've linked the cable up to a virgin media box, screwed to the exterior wall of my lounge and damaged the exterior brickwork.

I'm not a Virgin Media customer and haven't ever ordered VM services in any form. I don't even own a television. I received no advance request for the cable to be installed on my property and have given no permissions for same. I was not even formally notified afterwards that the work had been carried out - not even a note through the door. Why didn't the person use the existing cable box that is hidden behind a large Camelia bush ? The work is extremely shoddy - damaged brickwork, and mastic. I want the box removed and the damage fixed.

  • Hi NYC4 👋

We're really sorry for this confusing work done on you property, we usually only install a new cable when a customer has signed a contract with us. Thank you for flagging this to us. We'll be sending you a PM to discuss this further 🙂

You are not alone, yours is the third case recently of unwanted installation work.

You might get a VM person on here to say they will look into it, but don't expect anything to happen soon. They will probably keep delaying and ignoring in the hope that you will give up and accept what they have done.

If you want it removed promptly, you will need to speak to your neighbour who this cable leads to and tell him you are going to remove the cable, and then cut it yourself. There is no harmful current in it.
