VM account not linked to O2 but no SIM

Help....I'm going around in circles. Took the VM package with a SIM (Volt maybe?) but had no intention of using the sim card. Decided it was a waste so now want to use it but cannot physically find it (well I have found an o2 sim but if I put it in my phone, it doesn't work and I am not sure it is the right one anyway). 

Tried to access VM or O2 support through lots of routes but failed. Tried to link my VM account but gets to a point where it wants to send code to the O2 phone which I don't have because I don't have the sim. 

I think I need to order a replacement sim somehow and then activate it then link accounts. I have tried to re-register with O2 but that just sends me to the VMO2 website (where I eventually get texted to the number I don't have). 

Anyone had similar and been successful? please don't send me to the online msgbot :-o

    Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you're having some issues setting up a VMO2 ID. 

    Can you confirm if you've followed the help here

      Think I've been through it all..... the issue is that nearly everything requires you to log in or use the app (also with log in). I cant do that because I only have my Virgin log in and cannot link to O2 account because I don't have the phone number (because of the missing sim) that the system wants me to use for authentication. I tried using the on line messenger but cant get to a real person so whatever I type I ultimately get told to download the app and log in.
