Over charged on final bill

Have been notified by email of my bill which should only be for the last 4/5 days of service but I am being charged for a whole months subscribtion .This is not what I was told when I cancelled. I was given the amounts and now you are charging me 10 times more. Please contact me to sort this out.

Was that bill generated before or after your disconnection? That matters.

It's normal for billing to continue as normal until your actual disconnection date, after which a final bill is produced with all credits & debits. If this bill is your normal monthly cycle and covers after your proposed disconnection date, that's entirely normal.

  • How can I pay my final bill if I have cancelled my direct debit ?

In the Virgin Media online account have a look at :

Billing and payments >> A payment didn't go through

there are options to make a payment by:  bank transfer / cash / cheque.

  • It must have been generated after .I have the transcript from the cancellation .Can I pay my final bill another way instead of bt direct debit ?

Are you certain it was generated afterwards - have you checked? "Must have" sounds (to me at least) like "I think so but haven't checked"

As per my previous post, this matters. If the bill was generated before your disconnection, this is perfectly normal. If the bill was generated afterwards, then there would seem to be an error somewhere.

The advice to resolve differs depending on which scenario applies.

The bill was recieved by email on 24-07-2024 .My cancellation was carried out on 26-06-2024. Therefore bill must have been generated after cancellation .my final bill should have been £13.28p as told when I cancelled , not the £132.77 I am being charged. My billing cycle is up to the 22nd of each month

  • I'm in exactly the same position.

    • Called to cancel, and had cancellation confirmed, on 11th July
    • Disconnection date is 10th August
    • New bill has been generated on 29th July, covering period 6th Aug to 5th Sep
    • Bill is for a full month not just the 4-5 days it should be for

The most annoying thing is, if I click on the link to "explain my closing bill", it says I should only be paying for a few days, not the full month:

You'll only pay for the days before you
disconnect on 10th August, even if your
    usual billing period is longer.

Your usual Direct Debit amount will be
adjusted so you only pay for the days up
    to your disconnection date.
