You have to give VM 30 days notice to cancel. You should be able to coordinate this with the end of your current minimum term so as to avoid any early disconnection fees.
If you want to continue with VM you could renegotiate a new package at lower cost.
Alternatively you could give your cancellation and move to a different supplier for a lower price.

Much lower - especially if only basics are required - most people have no need of the ridiculously high internet speeds and extensive tv packages which are never watched.

Well said @spell
Very few people make full use of the speeds they pay for, and you don't have enough hours to watch all the TV on offer
Give VM their 30 days notice, and get a new deal elsewhere for a basic service that will provide just what you really need.

Firstly find out what alternative internet providers are available at your address - Vodaphone and smaller companies who are getting good reviews plus Freeview is surprisingly good - and free - although a recording box would be an asset at a one off modest price.
By all means renegotiate with VM once armed with your findings but certainly lately VM are giving out an air of desperation with reports of customers being tied to contracts that were never agreed and false excessive billing demands.
I could go on but it's your decision (not Virgins despite their business model which provides for control of customers and Ofcom).
Good luck with it
