Contract's coming to an end..

I have cancelled my account (in order to avoid the sky-rocketing price hike at contract end in 4 weeks time) and my plan is either to take up a Sky contract or (if nothing appeals to me) to have my wife call up Virgin as a new customer and arrange a new install (and a new customer deal) before the 4 weeks are up.
Has anyone done this before, can it be done without a break in service, and are there any issues I need to be aware of?

TIA
Jim

You can do it but it won't be seamless. You will have to send your equipment back, and then they will send new equipment for the new account.

Except in some very specific circumstances (and this isn't one), you can only have one account at a given address. So you will need to cancel your account & wait for disconnection before you're able to then request a new install as a new customer. Your existing equipment will be requested back, and you'll be provided with new kit.

Hmmm. Looks like Sky will be my best bet then.
My services will be disconnected on Aug 10th but (for some ludicrous reason) the notification says my account would not close until Nov 8th)? Therefore if two accounts would not be allowed at the one address then I won't be able to stay with Virgin unless I was willing to accept a break in services for 3 months.
I live in an old red sandstone, does anyone know if Virgin repair the holes they drilled in the walls?

They will be very reluctant to remove their external installation.
