Best price contract renewal issue.

Morning,

I accepted the best renewal price which Virgin sent to my email. Pre contract sheet received in my email stating the new price after accepting. New price was slightly higher than my current offer but was happy enough to continue for another 18 months.

I then notice I had an email saying I needed to ring the team as some information was missing to finalise the new "order".

Rang them this morning for them to tell me they can't honour that price now and the best price they can offer me was £116! Over £30 more a month than I originally accepted.

Of course I was far from happy and asked for them to cancel some services and I would just stick to just broadband.

The even bigger kicker here is they have now told me the next bill will be £190 nearly 3 times my normal bill. They stated it will involve the none promotional price. The 30 days change exceeds my promotional period. Which my argument to this was, I accepted a new price and contract in advance so it should roll straight into the new contract. Which I have done every time at the end of my contract.  Now Virgin made a mistake it is me who is taking a hit. I find this highly unprofessional and insulting.

I would like this looked into please asap.

Any other information would be much appreciated.

Yes that's a standard tactic. The attractive offer is just a hook to get you interested in a renewal with them and not look elsewhere. Then they reel you in to a sales person who will try to convince you to pay more.

Do you have an alternative high speed broadband locally? If so, get a quotation from them and use that to bargain with VM.

You might get a response from a VM person on here who can look into the "confusion" as it is called, but they cannot change the offer directly.

Exactly this. They said it was a mistake and an error on their side. Which I stated 3/5 emails for the same price is not an error.

My biggest issue is the fact they think they can take £190 now they've stopped me shopping around and my promotional period is basically over.

They haven't stopped you shopping around. If you actively signed the new contract you have 14 days to cancel it. if you haven't you are not bound by it and you have 30 days to cancel the old one.

Or you can get a new supplier to do all the work for you and you never need to contact VM again.

  • I’m in same boat, will let you know if I manage to get it sorted.  Please update if you have any joy!

@gillaitken15  yes I saw your own post. VM must be desperate for customers' money to use such dirty tricks.
