Aaaarrgggghhhh box wont work.

Hi all,

I've just 'upgraded' my 2 Virgin media boxes to 360 with no problem, but now one of them (think it is a Tivo) will not switch on, just showing a solid orange light.

I've tried holding +/-/ power buttons whilst turning the box on and off, unplugging, checking cables, standing on my head and whistling Always Look on the Bright Side of Life whilst pressing button B etc.  The light fleetingly turns white then back to orange.  The new 360 remote shows a flashing white light as it tries to connect.

I'm reluctant to reboot the wifi router as our other box is fine.  Do you think it's the box itself rather than connection?  Thank you all. 😊

  • Hi Whendee,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

We're sorry to hear you're having issues with one set top box.

Has this box worked at all since the upgrade?

Could you please check that all the cables coming into and out of the TV box are pushed in firmly?

Please do also re boot the TV set top box and the hub.

Please let us know if the orange light remains.

  • Thank you for your reply.  Yes, we activated the 360 upgrade and both boxes were working fine, but now the second box suddenly wont move past the welcome screen.  I've tried all the rebooting tricks, but still solid orange light.

Some of the V6's don't like the 360 software upgrade and the only solution is a new box.  Nothing to do with the Hub.

I'm curious as to which box(es) you had before upgrading to TV360.  You say you think one of them was a tivo, however tivo boxes can't be upgraded to TV360, they need swapping out.   Only the V6 can receive an over the update to 360. Was the unresponsive box that's now stuck on the Welcome screen the older tivo box shown on the right on the screenshot below?

You mention holding the + and -power  buttons.   They aren't power buttons, they are channel up and down buttons.

You need to turn off the 360 by the switch on the back of the box;  then on the front of the 360 box  hold down both the standby/power button and the - (minus) button at the same time, as per screenshot below. Then turn on the 360 again whilst keeping hold of those buttons for a further 30 seconds.

If you haven't already done so then you could also try the three fingered salute, which is switch off on the back of the box;  then on the front hold down the plus, minus and standby/power buttons at the same time, and switch on again whilst keeping all three buttons pressed down.  When it restarts you might see a message it can't acquire the channels. If so press OK and let it restart again.

Fingers crossed one of them works.

You could also try swapping the boxes around - it won't break the one that's actually working, but may force the other one to update.

Thank you newapollo.  Looking at your screenshot it's a V6 box that is causing problems.  I did try the +/- trick, but am going to try again using your instructions.

OK, I tried and got a solid black arrow over a white horizontal rectangular box.  The arrow seemed to be 'filling' and turning white, which was hopeful, and the power button on the v6 box went white.  Then it went orange again, the welcome screen came on and now is just repeating  that cycle over and over. 🙄

9 times out of 10 this sort of fault is because the reformat has caused an HDD failure. The older a box is the more prone it is to failing either on upgrade or shortly after.

  • Still orange, but a black arrow on screen that is 'loading' with white, then welcome screen followed by arrow.  This cycle is still repeating itself a couple of hours later.
