Re: Security on Home network when using Hub 3.0 @carl_pearce, @jpeg1, I'm very familiar with the 'stock answer' but it is still not the answer to the OP's and my follow-up questions. What, if any, firewall protection does the Hub 3.0 provide? Non-technical domestic users are as vulnerable to attack as anyone else and cannot afford to be complacent about security by relying on the fact that VM or the Hub 3.0 itself says that they are protected. Questions about performance problems and seemingly weak Wi-Fi signals with the Hub 3.0 and Hub 4.0, usually elicit the 'stock answer' but I am aware of the causes of these issues and I have come up with solutions / workarounds (posted numerous times in this community) that mean my Hub 3.0 works just fine, apart from the firewall issue. I know that I have alternatives but I am just trying to eek out that bit more from the Hub 3.0 as I have successfully done previously. Re: Security on Home network when using Hub 3.0 Of course, none of the above responses answer the original question about the built-in firewall in the Hub 3.0 and whether it provides any protection at all or what protection it does provide. As it has minimal configuration options, it's hard to tell what it does other than what it claims to do, which it does not. IPv4 firewall Firewall protection ✔️ Enabled Block fragmented IP packets ❌ Enabled Port scan detection ✔️ Enabled IP flood detection ✔️ Enabled I'm currently dealing with repeated attempts from multiple sources to access my network and certain devices and systems on that network. The Hub 3.0 states that it protects against such intrusions but my experience indicates otherwise. I want to stop unauthorised access to the network before it gets to any devices, as I can only protect certain devices through their own firewall, but I also need external access to certain devices and systems myself, so I can't shut everything out. Comments, suggestions or solutions welcome! Re: Chromecast with TV GO I doubt this will happen as it will effectively provide free MultiRoom. ... and running the app on a tablet or on compatible TVs doesn't? What is the point of the app if it isn't to be a portable version of a VM set-top-box? OK, @Ernie_C, I accept that your comment is two years old but, even then, the app was effectively a multi-room and beyond means of watching VM TV on the go (hence the name). It is now available on a variety of devices, including Apple TV I'm told, so why not on Chromecast which is an Android platform after all or allow it to cast to larger screens. Are we talking about two different things here anyway ... Casting the VM TV Go app to a TV Running the VM TV Go app natively on a Chromecast with Google TV Android device Re: FTTP New User Install Experience A great success story, for a refreshing change! I'd love to hear an update a year on. I'd also like to know from users with broadband, telephone and TV how things work in that scenario. Do you simply connect the TV360 box to the hub with an Ethernet cable instead of using the co-ax connector and it all works or is it more complicated than that? Re: Updated to TV 360 from V6 changes Yes, that is the problem with the complaints form, there isn't enough room to explain in detail any remotely complex issue. Another problem is that, having submitted a complaint and having received no acknowledgement or reply, I re-submittted the complaint a few weeks later but with the same result or lack thereof. Re: Updated to TV 360 from V6 changes Very often we are told by VM staff to start a new thread rather than tacking on to an existing thread even if the issue is exactly the same or directly related. I feel very strongly that this policy serves only to dilute the severity or widespread nature of issues and reduces the liklihood of pressure being brought to bear to find a solution to them. It also causes duplication of effort on the part of VM customers detailing issues which have already been meticulously explained by other customers and on the part of VM staff investigating issues that are already under investigation by other staff members. There is also a level of frustration and despondency associated with this 'divide and conquer' strategy. Re: Updated to TV 360 from V6 changes People who like or are satisfied with the TV360 box are generally those who have not previously enjoyed the experience of the TiVo and V6 boxes. Re: Updated to TV 360 from V6 changes Oh, that's a significant difference in buffering behaviour that I wasn't aware of!
