ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Ethernet & wifi fails diagnostic tests We left Virgin for a year and recently came back, not realising they’d dropped the TiVo recording feature. What a downgrade — the streaming box feels like a huge step backwards. I read an interesting article about the industry-wide shift to streaming, with some suggesting it’s more about data tracking and ad revenue than convenience. I ended up picking up a cheap satellite box that gets most of the free-to-air channels — the picture quality is noticeably better, and I can record full series again. It’s not quite the V6, but it’s miles better than the new streaming puck. The biggest issue now is reliability. I’m paying for a 1Gb connection, yet we can barely stream one BBC channel without dropouts. All devices around the house are losing signal regularly, even though I haven’t changed any internal wiring. Re: Ethernet & wifi fails diagnostic tests Thanks Tudor, away for half term but will post when back. Re: Ethernet & wifi fails diagnostic tests Yep we’re not using the 2.5Gb/s port. Ethernet & wifi fails diagnostic tests Ever since we’ve had our install, out networking has suffered from intermittent internet loss, watching any streaming service, BBC Chan 4 etc will stop playing several times in one evening & start to buffer, despite being connected via Ethernet & have never had a problem before. I discovered the hub 5 was showing a failure’s for Ethernet & WiFi on the internal diagnostics in the Hub 5 . So last week we got an engineer in who replace an external connection & internal as we still had the split in the coax that used to go to our lovely V6 box , (stuck with the crappy Streaming puc). Plus a replacement Hub 5 but the problem remains, in fact I think it’s even worse, internet speeds are now lower, the engineer replaced an attenuator to control the upstream & downstream signal better but I am wondering if this was wise as all the internal connections used to work fine. Now I’m reading about this firmware Ethernet bug on the forums could this be the cause of our problems? We do have some Ethernet hubs splitting the signals . It really is frustrating to watch TV streaming with the quality going up & down or stopping. Re: How can I get a V6 box ? Frankly, I don’t see the need for a reply that adds little value and comes across as more of a trolling jab than a helpful contribution. The blunt ‘period’ closing feels less like informing and more like dismissing, which isn’t constructive for anyone trying to find a solution. To be clear, we were offered the TiVo V6 box as new customers—but only if we agreed to take out a new contract and deal, effectively forcing us into a binding agreement just to get better equipment. This isn’t simply policy; it feels like a gatekeeping tactic designed to deter customers from choosing the V6 freely. If the intent is genuinely to assist, a bit of respect and useful advice would be appreciated rather than sarcastic dismissal. Conversations work best when they aim to solve problems, not shut them down Re: How can I get a V6 box ? Thanks for taking the time to rehash what’s already been stated in my original post and thread. I’m well aware of the official policy that the Stream box is the default and that the TiVo V6 boxes aren’t generally offered to new customers anymore—this isn’t news to me. What I’m pointing out is that, contrary to some advice here, it actually is possible to get the V6 TiVo—but only through a convoluted, costly process that involves cancelling the new contract, returning equipment, and risking losing the original deal. Unfortunately, with limited time before a holiday and zero luck reaching a helpful rep, we had no choice but to try the Stream box, which has been a huge downgrade in usability and value. I’m not asking for a policy lecture or repetition—just looking for practical suggestions or experiences from anyone who’s navigated this mess successfully. Re: How can I get a V6 box ? Thanks for the reply, we had Virgin before so we used to have a V6 box, my husband sorted this new deal out returning to Virgin but we had no idea about this non recording streaming puc, last time we spoke to Virgin as I said initially they were less than helpful swapping the streaming thing for the original box, but out house definitely is in the right area, we have the cable installed curled up under the the Tv, but don't know how to get it swapped for the box? Trying to call Virgin is a nightmare now, we called friday & gave up after 45 mins on hold! & that was after going through several of the automated options that resulted in a message saying check the website & cut us off. How can I get a V6 box ? We have a newish Virgin media contract with a 360 puc thing, we hate it, is there anyway we can exchange it for a V6 box? Happy to pay, we called a month ago but guy said we’d have to cancel our new contract , now it’s past the 14 days can we exchange it now? Re: TiVo or Stream box Thanks for the info , well our two weeks are up now , lapsed yesterday & we’re stuck with it for 2 years, we hate it, we watched some master check bake off the professionals last night, full of ads , typically I would have had these recorded and be able to fast forward. This steam box is useless. I appreciate the remote info but our original Virgin box was linked to our smart Alexa setup, so simple to say Alexa turn on the TV & it turned on everything at once, we can do something similar with the new remote but sometimes it works sometimes there is no sound sometimes no picture . It’s all reliant on the amp & TV turning on at the same time. We shall dump the Virgin Steam & get a free view box. It’s a waste of time Re: TiVo or Stream box I was within my two week install period & have had a nightmare getting everything working with our smart TV setup, basically the streaming puc is awful, it doesn’t support any smart controls as it’s Bluetooth remote, all the work around I tried failed. Turning on the TV has never been more painful! Then to top it off I don’t realise we can’t record any live TV and have to watch ad’s , depending on the channel. We now hate the thing So I called Virgin & was told by the first guy , no problem we can swap it over, he put me through to another guy who was very nice but basically said Virgin are phasing them out & will do anything to stop you getting one, to get one I’d have to take out a new deal and return all our installed equipment then negotiate a new deal plus £49.95. so what’s true can we or can’t we get a TV360 box? We are in the right area. It’s all red where we are.
