Ethernet & wifi fails diagnostic tests

Ever since we’ve had our install, out networking has suffered from intermittent internet loss, watching any streaming service, BBC Chan 4 etc will stop playing several times in one evening & start to buffer, despite being connected via Ethernet & have never had a problem before.
I discovered the hub 5 was showing a failure’s for Ethernet & WiFi on the internal diagnostics in the Hub 5 .
So last week we got an engineer in who replace an external connection & internal as we still had the split in the coax that used to go to our lovely V6 box , (stuck with the crappy Streaming puc).  Plus a replacement Hub 5 but the problem remains, in fact I think it’s even worse, internet speeds are now lower, the engineer replaced an attenuator to control the upstream & downstream signal better but I am wondering if this was wise as all the internal connections used to work fine. Now I’m reading about this firmware Ethernet bug on the forums could this be the cause of our problems? We do have some Ethernet hubs splitting the signals . It really is frustrating to watch TV streaming with the quality going up & down or stopping.

Please provide a full set of stats:

How to get stats from a VM hub (no need to logon to the hub)

Open a web browser and go to 192.168.0.1 router mode or 192.168.100.1 modem mode

    • Click on the “> Check router status” button
    • Click on the “Downstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply, do not take a screen shot
    • Click on the “Upstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply
    • Click on the “Networking” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply.
      • Do NOT post photos or screen shots they will be rejected as they contain MAC addresses. The board software will automatically change MAC addresses to **:** if done as above.

Had you been reading about Hub 5 & the 2.5Gb/s port, you would know not to use the 2.5Gb/s port unless you have disabled EEE on the connected device, you are not likely to be able to do that on a TV or a streaming TV device.

DId you have a change of contract, in that your V6 was replaced by a Flex streaming box?  Do all your ethernet devices suffer a loss of service?

We left Virgin for a year and recently came back, not realising they’d dropped the TiVo recording feature. What a downgrade — the streaming box feels like a huge step backwards. I read an interesting article about the industry-wide shift to streaming, with some suggesting it’s more about data tracking and ad revenue than convenience.
I ended up picking up a cheap satellite box that gets most of the free-to-air channels — the picture quality is noticeably better, and I can record full series again. It’s not quite the V6, but it’s miles better than the new streaming puck.
The biggest issue now is reliability. I’m paying for a 1Gb connection, yet we can barely stream one BBC channel without dropouts. All devices around the house are losing signal regularly, even though I haven’t changed any internal wiring.

As noted before, you really need to setup a BQM to monitor and record your incoming circuit.  Use http://www.samknows.com/realspeed to check the speed and quality to the Hub.

If you can, post the power levels and network log for comment.
