ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Fake anti-virus warnings... The ruddy things keep coming: Same 'foundrybrands', same 'account expiring / suspended', same 'link expires in 24 hrs'... Spam, spam, spam, of course, of course... Struck me that the '24 hrs' thing may be so they can use links that change too often for easy blocking... Take Care Out There !! Fake anti-virus warnings... I've been getting multiple e-mails purporting to be from Virginmedia, warning that scans of my system have shown assorted dire stuff, my anti-virus protection is about to lapse, my account to be suspended. Soon, tomorrow, tonight, again, again, again: IIRC, has now expired at least five times... Also, looking at mail headers, most claimed to sent by me or 'foundrybrands.com', addressed to an ancient AOL (!!) account. Wasn't even mine... Also, they cannot agree on which el-cheapo anti-virus I'm using, the latest being McAfee... Happens, I'm running a commercial anti-virus / fire-wall, dialled up to trigger-happy paranoid. N***n's reports no malign trespassers, duly flags each such e-mail as 'Uh-uh'... I thought Virginmedia mail-server routinely filtered such 'frequent phishers' ?? SolvedRe: Is this fake? Had a spate of these recently, all claiming I'd won nice prizes / loyalty gifts from a range of 'Big Name' stores. As I'm the guy who'd pull the size label from a hat full of raffle tickets, and several of the 'prizes' were identical, I knew they were all 'Too Good To Be True', so phishing... Was this a Phish ?? Got a call lunchtime, claiming to be from BT: 0193 257 1002 A well-spoken lady, in *loud* call-centre, sorta-Asian accent that took a while for my old ears to untangle... Apparently, my BT broadband was 'slow'. I replied I was with Virgin, was told BT supply the lines. I said my service ran slow from time to time, usually when peak-hours in eg Asia or US, but *only* from sites there. She said the slow-down was due to my old modem/router cable box. I replied that my box was *recent*, as upgraded for VOIP. She said my box was slow due to 'old' software, needing an upgrade. I asked if a re-boot would auto-update. No, I must connect my box to their 'Safe and Secure' site, accept the down-load... { Yeah, right: Pull the other leg, there's bells on it... } No, first I must check-- [ The other caller has cleared. The other caller has cleared. The other... ] It sounds like a phish, teases like a phish, wriggles like a phish, but is it a phish ?? Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 Looks like 'almost sorted' as VM Status for my area now reckons repairs will be complete by 15:00, but I've just had a couple of e-mails come through that have been queued since ~05:15... So, 'not bounced'', which is good-ish... Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 Status page currently says, We're doing some work on our site ... which does not offer explanation of fault nor time to remediation... Whatever, given that a bunch of mail apps all give the same error message, looks like VM's mail server has gone off-line. Which means it cannot handle re-tries, password resets etc etc. {Sigh} Going for brunch, hope solved and sorted by noon or, at least, early afternoon... Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 My gmail and yahoo seem okay, but the Virgin accounts fail with... Sending of password for user ###@###.com did not succeed. Mail server pop3.virginmedia.com responded: [SYS/TEMP], Account is temporarily unavailable. My Win_10 Thunderbird mail app auto-updated to 102.12.0 on 18 Jun at 12:51:02 D'uh, I'm going to re-boot PC back to mobo splash-screen, go for a drink of water, try to get another nap despite heat...
