Volt upgrade offer to M500 not any faster

Hi There,

Took the recent email offer to upgrade my speed x2 from a Volt 250 to Volt M500 for an extra 6 pounds per month (VOLT M350 was an extra 3 pounds).

I always got the expected speed plus more on the Volt 250. Unfortunately I'm not getting the expected speed increase on the VOLT M500 after it was upgraded today and the modem reset itself to put it into effect.

Checking the HUB 3.0 network configuration the primary downstream flow is 575000085 which would suggest that the expected speed should be available?

In the cable modem status is the following.

Cable Modem StatusItem Status Comments

Acquired Downstream Channel (Hz)
363000000
Locked
Ranged Upstream Channel (Hz)
53700004
Locked
Provisioning State
Online

As you can see its getting a max of 363mb connection. I've tried rebooting etc but it hasn't changed anything. My issue is this the max speed on the VOLT M500 product for me? If so then there is no point in paying the extra for a double upgrade when the move to a VOLT350 was the most I would be able to get.

Please advise what can be done. Thanks

Note: I've tried calling the helpline but all they do is give advice on the wifi signal even though I kept explaining its the modem speed connection / product subscribed to that's the issue.

Hi @Jimbooz

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Sorry to hear of any low speed issues.

We've ran a system diagnostic here and no issues are showing.

Can you run a wired speedtest via laptop/PC at SamKnows in router mode, with only that device connected and report back please?

Hi there, thanks for running the test, I’ve got it working fully doing the following. Might be useful for others.

  • Turned off router mode (I use another router for better Wi-Fi reach)
  • Moved the router away from the tv
  • Tightened the cable coming from the outside into the router as it was loose.
  • Full router reset.
  • Wired test, ahh the cable that went from the virgin router in modem mode to my personal router is a cat 5 only.
  • Swopped in a 5e cat cable
  • Wired test run. Getting 500mbps+ speed.
  • Modem mode back on and plugged back into the secondary router.
  • WiFi speed test to secondary only getting around 310mbps.
  • Find that 5ghz channel is being limited to 600mbps in the settings but limiting to less Changed to 1600mbps max and we get full speed!
  • More tweaks made to the netgear router to turn off unnecessary services and maximise processing power to the 5ghz Wi-Fi.
  • Wifi now maxing out at 530mbps down / 50mbps up. Also ping has reduced by from 40ms to 29ms

Hope this helps others.
