Problems with subtitles

 We like to use subtitles quite often when watching the TV. Since we installed the 360 box I have noticed that if I actually record a programme I can get subtitles , but if I stream it I can't. This can happen with the same series, so obviously the channel is providing subtitles. I have used both the remote and 'asking' for the subtitles, but get a response that these aren't available. Is there a way round this?

I expect some older programmes may not have them, but before we had the 360 box I don't remember this problem happening so frequently.

Which channels are you referring to?  BBC ITV and sky channels all have subs online
