Noisy 360 Boxes

Hi,

Seems I'm not alone complaining about this but my original 360 box was absolutely fine until it started deleting all recordings and so was changed.

I thought the replacement box had a noisy fan so it was replaced but that one was the same, probably even worse. So complained again and Virgin sent an engineer to replace the box again but this one has turned out to be the loudest of the lot! Engineer said mine was the first of a new batch of boxes they'd been given and doesn't know if they are new or re-conditioned. Said I could contact him about the box directly but not yet come back to me.

When TV volume is on low early morning or later at night or if watching cricket when commentary is not constant, I can hear the box over the sound of the TV and is very distracting - this can't be normal can it?

So guess my question is whether the current iteration of 360 boxes are naturally this noisy as I've has three that are. If the answer is yes I will have to consider changing TV service.

Thanks

Is your box an Arris box or Humax box. If it's an Arris manufactured box then it's almost certainly a refurbished V6 box, Humax made the original 360 boxes and as far as I know still make them, but it could also be a refurbished Humax.

You are correct you shouldn't be able to hear the fan, I have had my Humax box 5 years and the fan is still silent.

Hi @jamiet554

Welcome back to the community forums.

Sorry to hear of the issues you've had with a noisy fan you the set top box.

Is the fan immediately noisy when you switch it on or does the fan start getting louder the longer it's switched on?

Is the set top box is an open, well ventilated area?

Here to help 🙂

Yes it's on an open shelf with plenty of ventilation.

The first replacement box I think it was the fan but this box just makes a low pitch noise from the moment it's switched on and is distracting if TV volume is low. The proof of this is I actually turn off the box off if not watching TV whereas before I'd leave it on.

Just not sure what to do next - already complained and sent back 2 replacement boxes so do I do the same again.

I guess it goes back to my original question of should the 360 box operate silently or not.

Thanks for the reply and just checked and it's an Arris box. Was looking for a manufacture date but couldn't see one.

Thanks for coming back to us with more information @jamiet554

Can you please confirm if the engineer you referred to in your initial post has since come back to you?

Have or could you potentially record a video of the set top box in operation, so we can hear the noise that is being made?

Thanks

Hi,

I messaged the engineer a few days after he installed box as had his mobile number. He replied saying he would come back to me in a few days but hasn't and I haven't chased again since.

I will try taking a video to check if what I'm complaining about comes through on video.

Thanks

Here's a short video, hopefully you can hear how it's making a noise.
