Hub power supplies

My hub 3 has a separate power supply to the outside dropbox. When my friend got a new installation with a hub 5 he didn't need a separate supply. Does that mean the hub 5 supplies the dropbox via the one cable. Which begs the question if you were to upgrade to a hub 5 would there need to be some rewiring of the dropbox supply.

Neither RFoG(Radio Frequency over Glass, still DOCIS) nor coax DOCIS is better. Eventually the RFoG will be transferred over to full fibre with no DOCIS involved.

From what you describe I think you have a RFoG fibre connection to your outside omnibox and this requires a power supply, it’s nothing to do with what hub you have. So changing hubs will make no difference. Only a small proportion of users have RFoG.

Thank you. Out of curiosity what would be the alternative to RFoG and which is the newer or better system
