Please help! I’ve spent hours on this forum tonight checking and testing things, but there is a limit to my technical abilities.
I have a TiVo box and I want to watch the recordings in my shows on my iPad. The tv control app finds the things in my shows (so it obviously finds my box) but then says I can only watch the show on the tv, it says ‘out of home.’
Also the remote section of the app says ‘home network required…. The virgin tv box was not found on the current network.’
I saw something about IP addresses and if they start 192 then it’s on the home network but 169 is not… my box seems to start 169… but I don’t know what to do about it. There are some instructions online about trying to change the network and selecting ‘wireless’ on the tv but I can’t find that option in the settings.
I always assumed it was automatically connected to the Wi-Fi. How do I connect the TiVo box to the Wi-Fi? Help please!

Hi met183 👋
Thanks for posting, and a warm welcome back to the Community Forums.
I'm sorry to hear you've had some trouble with the "TV Remote" app. For clarity, do you experience any issues when attempting to watch recordings on your box directly? In addition, the use of a VPN or Anti-Virus on your device can sometimes prevent the app from working correctly, do you have one of these active?
Are you able to view the recordings on any other devices, and have you been able to view them on this device in the past? Can you also provide us a picture of the TV box you have with us, just to confirm whether this is a TiVo or V6 TiVo box?
Thanks,

Hi,
To answer the question, it’s the TiVo box that I’m referring to. I’ve been able to view things on the device from on demand but never the shows in my recordings, which id like to do as I’d specifically like to watch those rather than the kind of random selection I find on demand through the virgin tv go app. That’s why I’m trying to use the tv remote app.
in answer to your other questions I don’t experience issues with my shows on the tv from the box directly, that works fine. I also don’t use a VPN and don’t think there’s anti virus software on the iPad i am trying to watch on either.
thank you. Any help much appreciated.

For in-home streaming, TiVo's need an Ethernet connection from the box to your home-hub. This is totally separate from the TiVo's internet connection which is in-built from the same co-ax that provides live broadcast TV channels.
With that Ethernet connection, the TiVo will get a 192.168.x.y IP allocation within your router, and thus satisfy the "in-home" requirement where both devices have an IP in the same subnet.
