Hi all

We have just had virgin stream and broadband installed but want a tv box we can record/pause/rewind on etc instead did not realise we at the time that this isn’t what we were getting.

Can we upgrade to a V6 or 360 box?

Hi emma,

Pictures of the hub 5 and hub5x are below.  As you can see the hub 5 has a 2.5Gbpsz port whereas the hub5x has a 10Gbps port.  If you have a hub5x then that means you are on VM's new fibre (XGS PON) to the premises network.

VM's recordable TV set top boxes only work on the older DOCSIS network (hub5) which uses coaxial copper cables.

VM's DOCSIS and XGS PON aren't compatable as without coaxial there are no traditional cable television signals just internet, so VM provide their TV service on the  full fibre  network over the internet using the Stream (Flex) box, hence no recording facilities.

Customers on the new full fibre to the premises network receive VM's latest router, the hub5x.  which doesn't have modem mode. Also there isn't currently a landline service on the full fibre network.

So if I have the 5x can I get it changed so I’m able to upgrade?

If you have the hub5x then you are restricted to the non recordable Stream (Flex) boxes since you will be on  the  full fibre  network which isn't compatable with the older coaxial that is needed for traditional cable television signals

There are still non-VM options https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/how-to-cut-the-cord-watch-tv-without-cable-uk-guide/
