Over the last couple of weeks websites are being blocked by security essentials. Every time I check it's shows as turned off yet obviously not. An error saying settings cannot be changed appears if I try to do anything. Anyone know of a solution please?

Are you sure these websites are being blocked by Security Essentials and are not being blocked by something-else? I don't have Parental Controls switched on but I find my AV (Bitdefender) often blocks websites that VM Security Essentials Virus Protection appears to have no problems with.

What settings are you trying to change when you get that error?  The  "Categories", "Website", "Timer" settings within Parental Control? Or something-else?

1) If you have a Hub 5, make sure Smart Security is disabled in the VM Connect app.

2) Set your device or even just the web browser to use a Public DNS and that will bypass VM's Child Safe.

Hello Sdgtiger13,

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with some sites being blocked.

Have you been able to resolve the issues with the help provided by the community members or do you require further assistance?

Kind Regards,

Steven_L

Well I have resolved the issue as I have altered private DNS on my mobile devices but this does not absolve VM from fixing the issue. Also trying to change child safe from off to on or vice versa still comes up with an error  settings cannot be saved, but as there are many posts on this over at least a year I am not holding out much hope it will be fixed.

VM's Child Safe admin has been failing in the portal for 3 years and still no progress to fix.

VM's Virus Safe is even more pernicious. We can enable / disable it & save the settings but the only difference is when set to on a VM web page displayed to confirm a blocked site, when set to off SSL/TLS failure occurs. Hence with the default DNS Virus Safe is always on and fails to disable.
