Blocked website parental controls

We have a stead fast no YouTube rule in our house and prior to being with virgin we had no problem blocking it via our provider because kids will be kids! I’ve blocked it via the connect app but they can still access it via the tv (I’ve used individual device settings to block phones/tablets) how can I get it to work?

  • Go to Settings, Parental Controls, Lock Apps enter your pin number and block any apps you want to block.

Is this via the streaming box as it’s not on any of my Virgin apps

Yes it's via the Stream box (also the 360 box)

Settings > Parental Controls > Lock Apps

You need to enter the set top box PIN number which is set to either 0000 or 1234 by default.

If you've told the kids the box PIN number then you'll need to set up a different one and don't tell them the new one.

Not all kids are super academic, but they sure have A++ scores in discussing and understanding how to effortlessly bypass ISP Parental Controls and Wi-Fi Pausing.

Come off it! They have bought a service from VM and should not have to invest in additional learning or technology.

We all know that the VM offering doesn't work and/or is easily bypassed, but VM should still provide what they offer.

Well their a easy fix for VM...don't do router mode.

  • Ive not long joined vm and have been trying to get this sorted for a couple of weeks.

After some investigation and reading this forum it appears that the parental controls on vm do not work at all. All websites are accessible even with controls switched on. With Sky you had to specifically allow harmful sites like pornography/violence etc and access was automatically blocked. With vm they are allowed by default and the blocking has no effect.

The blocked site list doesnt work and it appears it has never worked. Internet pausing of specific devices doesnt work and seemingly has never worked.

Customer services will take you through a pointless process of re setting the hub with full knowledge it wont work.

The only option is to switch providers. Im pretty sure we can cancel our contracts without penalty as vm are not providing the agreed to services.

We can test to see if VM Parental Controls are working.

Perform a DNS look up of a website that you have listed to be blocked.

    e.g.   nslookup www.youtube.com

Copy and paste the entire text response into this thread
so we can see the DNS that performs the lookup
and the IPs that are returned.
