Child safe not working

forret86

Child safe is switched on but has stopped blocking adult sites (it used to). I’ve seen previous posts suggesting going to the 1.1.1.1 site and checking AS Name value says Virgin Media and it does. Please help, I’ve got young, curious kids spending more time than usual on their screens over half term!

It seems that the VM forum team can do something about it https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Security-matters/Web-safe-not-working-when-enabled/td-p/5426904

In the mean time try disabling it for five minutes and then enabling it again.

Can anyone help? I’ve switched the router off and on with no improvement

Hi @forret86

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Sorry to hear of this. Normally when you make a change and then reboot it should sort itself.

Have you tried a PIN reset on the router?

Also are the websites being accessed using incognito/private browsing/via a VPN?

Best wishes.

I’ve done a pin reset on the router and it’s made no difference. I’m not using private browsing (although previously it would block it on private browsing) and it’s still not working. Can someone help? I’ve got search restrictions on their devices but I want the backup of having it on the wifi too as we once did. Now when you put in ‘nude’ into google - something a naturally curious kid might do - the first results are pornhub and xvideos!

I’ve also tried blocking specific websites, again absolutely no difference. I don’t want to sound dramatic but I may have change service provider if this can’t be fixed, there are aspects of the internet that I want to be able to protect my kids from while they’re young. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

Thanks Cardiffman, doing a pin reset and switching off for 5 mins, rather the recommended 1 minute, did the trick. Much appreciated

New around here?

This sounds more promising than the complete lack of any assistance on Virgin’s own website!! Thanks for sharing.

when you say PIN reset what do you mean?

isn’t it crazy that Virgin’s site states that “Web Safe is automatically turned on for customers joining Virgin Media after 16 May 2018.” but that clearly is not the case at all.

I spoke too soon. One week later and it’s started again. Come on virgin, sort this out. Judging from the messages on this forum this problem is clearly widespread and your ‘child safe’ is simply not fit for purpose. There is a genuine risk to minors and you could be legally liable if they come to harm and it is shown that you haven’t taken reasonable action to address a known issue.
