Running fibre down private lane

feared
Joining in

We live down a private lane.

  • I check houses that run near us with their gardens facing us, and they all get Gig1 - 50m from us
  • I check houses that are at the end of the private lane and they also get Gig1 - about 350m from us

How can I expedite getting Gig1 to our premesis? I'm happy to have the groundwork laid down the lane, as there's an easy soft verge on one side that could hold standard conduit and fibre all the way to our property.

We're stuck on ADSL or 4G at the moment, and it's painful!

And who is going to pay for all this work for one house?  I can't see VM paying really.

I'm happy to pay for the 350m run - the 50m run is less than to many houses on its own. There are 3 other houses on the 350m private lane.

Rule of thumb is that VM do not install on Private Roads, nor do they entertain customers financing road infrastructure. VM stopped doing "infill" builds sometime ago due to the high costs involved for little return. If it is in a legacy network area there may not be the capacity to expand anyway.

In that case, as an example of costs, get Openreach to quote you for FTTPoD.  I believe it's around £250 just to get the quotation paperwork started.
