Dear all,

im having my new virgin media installed next weekend in my flat with a IRS system. I’ve had a pre install visit and they took photos. The question I’m asking is on Monday I have Virgin turning up to replace my faceplate which I assume is the one with my satellite and tv aerial connections but recent I had this fixed by a company called SCCI Alphatrack and I asked the engineer about getting Virgin media and he told me that they replace the faceplate and connect to virgin via the connection box outside wall. He also says that Virgin ask them to do this and then they charge Virgin. He had the faceplate in the van but couldn’t install it as the current job was not with Virgin. So will the visit on Monday be done as Virgin are coming out not SCCI. I’ve told customer services about this but not sure they understood.

Thanks and hope this makes sense.

David

IRS faceplates have been installed for years in flats to provide multiple outlets for DTT, satellite and radio. When VM provides its service you have "VM over IRS" whereby the faceplate is replaced by a VM one which adds the outlet for the coaxial cable. (I'm careful not to say "VM's coaxial cable" as the existing cable in the building is used to carry VM's signals.) VM is responsible for the work and some of it is often contracted out to a specialist like SCCI.

Yes exactly but it was trying to arrange to get faceplate changed with cable connected to VM on the junction box on the apartment block wall and customer services not fully understanding this and even the engineer who did the pre install survey had not seen this setup before. Keep my fingers crossed by a week on Thursday midday I’m connected.

Can you please come back here and report on what SCCI did.

Well I’ve got the first part of my installation completed on th virgin over IRS system so just the virgin engineer to come in the morning after it was it was moved from this afternoon to get connected.

so the first picture is the virgin box where the cable comes from the street and then the engineer runs a coaxial cable to the next box and now uses one of the cables going to my flat for tv say etc for virgin media.

The first is the primary lockbox. How many flats in the building?

8 flats total and only 1 flat using virgin media currently
