Council or National Highways?

Hello,

I was due to have Virgin broadband installed at my house on March 25th.

However it was delayed to April 6th as they hadn't got the permits  to authorise the work. I have been told again by Virgin it is now delayed until May 6th as they still haven't been given permission to dig up the pavement to install the cable.

I've contacted both the local Council and National Highways who each say the other is responsible to authorise the permit to allow Virgin to install the cable at my house.

Does anyone know who it actually is? I can't afford for the install to be delayed again.

Thanks

Update from Council is that all the work was completed in March so I have no idea why an engineer could not come today and they changed the date to May instead. The email said it was down to not having the correct permits but they have got them... I even have the permit numbers and can see the work was done outside my house when I look at the pavement.

The lie about waiting for permission is used by subcontractors when they are not ready to do the job for their own reasons. The last permission timed out so they will ask again in May (or June).

Be sure that you keep records of all contacts with VM as you will be due for considerable compensation.

Hi @elrasho

Welcome to the community forums

So sorry to hear that your installation has been delayed due to requiring permits and permissions. It could be that there were additional works needed to complete the install. I appreciate the frustration that these delays may cause, unfortunately, they can happen due to the way we provide our network.

Has a team been keeping you up-to-date with any changes and chasing for your install at their side?

Here to help 🙂

Hi. How is you situation?  We seems to have the same problem. Who is giving permission?  Council?

You would probably do best to stick to your own original topic on your cable non-installation. When you multi-post it splits your questions and answers into different locations which often means it is harder for anyone on here to help (as the information is spread all over the place).

If you want to find out who your council is with responsibility for roads, try here

https://www.gov.uk/find-local-council

and look for the council with 'transport' responsibility. Usually it is the county council in areas which have one.

Once you have found that information you could phone the council to find out about your work permit. Many past customers have done that on here when VM was claiming a 'council permit' delay, only to find no permit had ever been requested or one had been issued but never used.

You may also see some information here

https://one.network/

which allows you to view work upto 12 months ahead (although not all street works are reliably listed on the site)

Hi.

Do you mean I shouldn't reply to others posts? I didn't know that. 😕

By all means reply to someone's thread if you can add something to help them.

But not to introduce your own problem, which can just complicate things.

As per jpeg1, you are free to post anywhere you like and on any topic. I was just suggesting something that might possibly help you (and others replying) in the long run while you try to resolve your cable installation query.

If the thing you are posting about is directly linked to your own (cable non-installation) topic, I was suggesting that it will benefit you, in the long run, to keep all of that information in one place on your own/original topic rather than having different questions and answers posted across several different topics. At the end of your VM installation, you may need to refer back to your exchanges with VM on here and you will find it easiest to do that if all the information is in one place.  If your topic queries are in multiple locations, you may also get duplicate, or possibly conflicting, answers from those who reply.
