Wire cut whilst works being done - digging query

MarJanas

During some works on our driveway the wire has been cut. Unfortunately it wasn't an easy fix and the wire need to be re-pull from the street. The team should have come in today but we just received a notification that our appointment was rescheduled for 22.06.2024. We can not continue any works on the drive.  Our contractor is not happy about it because he is waiting to finish his job and be paid.  Is there any way we could speed up this appointment?

Last team pulled out the wire saying there is a blockage on the street and they did the mark where they need to dig. My question is: will they have to dig all the way to the green box on the street or there can be some connection under the ground on the street?

At the moment we have been without connection for 9 days and I can't imagine how we going to cope for another 4 weeks( if only).

Can we somehow finish the drive and just leave the pipe undrgroud for the wire to be installed later?

Please any advice

Thank you

Good point.  It's likely that the cable came from a drop point outside your house.  That cable can simply be pulled through the duct from the drop point and it's gone - leaving the other half there toward your wall box. If there's a blocked duct (as in a collapse of earth), then you weren't connected directly to the cabinet, but you could have been connected to a floor chamber.   Several possibilities.  A duct collapse doesn't usually sever the contained cables - it just compresses/blocks the duct.

I think there was already some problem there before because there is a pach of tarmac where they left the mark. Like there has been some works done already. So in that case they would only have to connect us to this "junction" on the road.

We are expecting a phone call tomorrow from a technical who was here first maybe he will be able to explain us all this situation.

If this is only a matter of cutting up  a 1.5m of tarmac,  why does it need to take so long😵😭

Hi all.

Technician  came and left this pipe with a string inside. He wanted to connect ust to our neighbour but he is not very friendly so he passed on that. So...if we will

try to connect these two pipes will they be able to pull through the cable? And is it OK to place this green pipe under tarmac when the cable won't be there ( is it strong enough to not being squashed? ).

The "green pipe" can indeed be placed under concrete - the "pipe" (duct) is intended to be below ground.  The important thing for VM is that the string pulls from each end.

Hi

On the 13.05.2024 our outside cable was cut through by people digging up our drive. Issue was quickly reported to VM and technician came to join two ends. Unfortunately he said its not possible and some other team need to attend. Next day two other technicians came but said there is a blockage on the road and we need a re-pull. Appointment was scheduled for 15.05.204 and then rescheduled again fir 22.06 which is today. Nobody came today so we called customer service at 4pm. They said technicians will be in an hour. Yes right. After an hour we recived a text message saying our appointment was rescheduled for 13.07.2024. I know this is very common for VM, but can someone could advice how to make an official complain and also who I need to contact regarding permission for works being able to carry on on the street.

If they gonna come on the 13.07 that will leave us 2 months without any service.

I don't know why technician pulled out the cable from the street? Why couldn't he temporary connect these two ends?

I hope someone from VM will reply to my post aa this is really not acceptable to treat customer this way.

You can formally complain to VM

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/complaints

but it is unlikely to shift the dial on them doing something.

You may see some indication of street work here (by changing the search date range into the future)

https://one.network/

but there have been plenty of topics on here where the waiting customer has been told by VM they are being held up waiting for 'council permits' and the customer has found out this has been a lie when they have contacted the council themselves and the council has stated no permits have ever been applied for.

Responsibility for street works may depend where you live. If you have a local and county council it is usually the county council who is responsible.

If you are unsure, find your council here

https://www.gov.uk/find-local-council

and contact the one responsible for transport.

None of this will help speed up VM but at least you will know if the explanations you are being given are truthful or not.

Hi

One more question

Are we eligible to get a free wireless connection for the time we are waiting to be connected again.?

Precisely what do you mean?  Where would this 'free wireless connection' be located and how delivered?
