I am looking to get an extension cable as the wall socket is a few metres away from where my broadband and 360 tv box will be placed - is this something Virgin can provide?

As said do not try this yourself !
VM will install the Hub where you want it and connect it to the wall with a custom made length cable and then check all levels - at the time of installation - but you obviously need a "Tech install".
Call the Pre-installation and delivery team on 0800 052 1734 and book a Tech install open 8:00am to 9:00pm Monday to Friday, and 8:00am to 6:00pm Saturday and Sunday

Virgin Media typically does not provide extension cables for broadband or TV setups. You can purchase a suitable extension cable from electronics retailers or online stores to connect your devices to the wall socket. You cannot use your own cabling to connect to the VM network.

VM will provide extension coax cables of the correct type. You cannot buy these from the usual stores. If you wait here a VM person will pick this up and offer to help.
