Hi,
I have just upgraded from 250mb to 1gb speed and i am wanting to know if the signal will be better than the current hub 3.0 i have?
I had to buy a seperate router to extend the Wi-Fi signal upstairs and into a few other rooms as the signal was transferring fast enough or even at all in some cases.
Will the new hub i am going to receive make the 3rd party one pointless?
I am wanting to remove the router as its in the way but if i have to use it then i will have to keep it.
I did ask for some Wi-Fi boosters previously and was told no, is this something i could have with my new package? seen as i am paying more monthly than i have previously.
Thanks

I'd not expect a change of VM Hub to make a significant difference to the in home Wi-Fi coverage.
In a home of any size, one ISP Hub / Router are not normally close to be sufficient for good Wi-Fi coverage in all upstairs and downstairs rooms.
Folks keep writing it was perfect on BT but we soon discover they had a BT Router plus 3 BT Wi-Fi repeaters !

Well my hub is based under the stairs and the only connection that was full speed was the hive heating we had connected via ethernet which was also under the stairs. Nothing else worked so I had to buy this extra router which now reaches the whole of the house but it's just bulky and in the way. I am in the middle of a loft conversion so will be putting the router in there eventually but would prefer in the meantime to just use the new hub and possible adapters but keep getting refused

1Gb users should be entitled to up to 3 WiFi pods for free. The Hub should also be placed out in the open for best wifi propagation.

VM Pods are totally locked down, they only work with the VM Hub in Router mode & with a single SSID.
If you intend to use the VM Hub in Modem mode ( a very good idea ) with your own Router,
the VM Pods are quite useless to you.

If it is that they are locked down its fine i can just scrap the router, i could use it as a repeater if needed for down in my shed (as i have no ethernet connection down there).
I cant easily put it in the open as the cable wont stretch to make it in the open, it would mean re-arranging the cable and everything.
I just want to refrain from buying a mesh network as it would cost a fortune when i thought the pods would do it .

You can pay from 250Gb to 1Gb each month more every month but you can't buy a one off better router...
good luck with the pods

Hi jaffabfc1,
Thank you for your post. We're sorry to hear about the issue with your broadband service.
As you are on 1GB you would be entitled to 3 free WiFi pods. If you would like us to order those for you please do let us know and we can arrange that.

WiFi is explained in my sticky thread! Nuts and bolts of it is that if you want to use repeaters, the first repeater/pod in the mesh has to be within good range of the host router in order to relay a decent signal to the next repeater. That’s the black art part of all this. A first repeater that is fed by Ethernet cable (that you’ll have to thread to the right location) is an ideal starting point. A. Source router under the stairs is bad news for WiFi propagation although a repeater at the top of the stairs would likely have a decent signal (but equally likely no mains power source). Dark art/pot luck indeed.
