I’ve purchased a Deco X55 wifi mesh system, although I haven’t plugged it in yet, so that has nothing to do with the problem. But in preparation of setting it up I’ve tried setting the Hub 3 to modem mode. I connected via Ethernet from my Mac to the top/1st Ethernet socket on the hub. Connected to hub and set Hub to modem mode. Hub shows it is in modem mode but there was no resetting or changing of lights on the hub. Waited 10 minutes but still didn’t restart. Switched hub off and back on. Hub reset and accessed Hub via Ethernet and hub was showing as being in modem mode, but I was still able to also connect to my Guest wifi Network. Then lost Ethernet access to the hub and wifi (which I shouldn’t have had anyway).
Switched the hub off and on and waited for it to reset. Then accessed hub via Ethernet. It was painfully slow to load and put it back into router mode, but again it didn’t appear to reset after 10 minutes and I had to switch hub off and on. When it came back up I had Guest Network but not the main wifi network. Couldn’t access the hub via wifi or Ethernet. Then lost wifi completely again after a few minutes.
Connecting to:
192.168.0.1 in router mode
192.168.100.1 in modem mode
Repeated the process of switching the hub off and restarting a few times, with the same result. Finally I had to do a factory reset to get wifi working.
If I can’t connect to the hub via Ethernet does that mean the hub is not working, or is this normal? I don’t want to start setting up the Decos until I know the hub is working in modem mode.

First before calling VM with a fault, follow the instructions for putting a VM hub into modem mode.
How to put a VM hub into modem mode:
1) Access your hub on 192.168.0.1, sign on and put it into modem mode. On the Hub3 the bottom LED will change to magenta, on a Hub4 the LED band will be green, on a Hub5 the LED will be green. Best done from a wired connection.
2) Turn off the hub and disconnect any Ethernet cables
3) Fully initialise your own router or mesh master unit and make sure the WAN port is set to DHCP (for some routers or mesh this may have to be done in router mode before entering modem mode)
4) Connect your router or mesh master unit to the VM hub with an Ethernet cable, Cat5e or Cat6, any higher specification is a waste of money. On a Hub5 use port 4.
5) Turn on the VM hub.
6) You should now be able to access the internet and the hub will now be on 192.168.100.1
Note1: this only needs doing once for each new router or when VM changes your WAN IP address.
Note2: If you have a Hub4 and your own router is NOT 192.168.0.1 then it’s possible that you can still access the VM hub on 192.168.0.1

Now that its reset it should behave itself now use the bottom port do not use the other ports all be it any one should work.
Change to modem mode and the should reboot unplug replug Ethernet to get a IP if nothing power off hub for 2 mins and try connecting to the internet again.

Hey EllieA,
Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your hub at the moment, have you been able to follow the instructions from Tudor to resolve the issues that you're having or do you need further assistance?
Kind Regards,

What assistances can you provide for modem mode?

Yes, thank you, it now works and goes into modem mode and resets. I managed to get the decos set up yesterday and all worked well, except that during the night the Hub3 lost its internet connection and I had the restart it this morning. I will see if the same thing happens tonight, or if it was a one-off.

Modem mode would not cause this type of problem, but you should not have had to restart the hub. VM often do maintenance overnight, so check out:
Area faults on 0800 561 0061 If you have a VM landline 150 this goes down to post code level.

Also setup a BQM to monitor the circuit. It really is a must for all users. You will see many BQM's posted here as proof of poor service and/or disconnections.
