I have the M350 broadband package with the VOLT bolt on which takes it up to M500 (500bps). The issue I have is I still have the superhub 3, which only give you wifi 11ac speeds (around 200bps), so on wifi I cannot benefit from the extra speed . How do I go about getting an upgrade to the superhub 5, which has 11ax speeds ?

Yes because your downloading thier is no QoS/BWM on the hub when you hit your max speed you just buffer and steam is very multi threaded.
your can solve this by a QoS/BWM router

Rubbish.
This does not occur on a stable VM connection.

So what your saying is steam downloads and speedtest.net are under the same rate limit by VM which is why speed test shows good speed when not downloading by steam?

No.

I dont think you understand the issue. Im only getting full speed downloading for about 20 seconds, after that the downloads throttles back about 15-20Kbps. If this was genuinely the download speed from steam, then there still should have been plenty of headroom left to do the speedtest. QOS only priorities what services get the most bandwidth. As I was only downloading using one laptop wired directly to the superhub, and there were no other devices connected on the network, the router should be providing full bandwidth to the laptop. Even when I stop downloading it takes a couple of minutes before im back up to full speed on the superhub. This seems to suggest, that the huib cannot cope with the large amount of constant download speed, and throttle backs after 30 seconds, maybe due to the cpu being underpowered and throttling due to overheating issues. Thats why it takes a little while to get back to full throughput once i stop downloading.
The only other possibility is that VM is throttling the bandwith if you try to download too much data. some of these games on Steam are 30-40 Gig. If I connect my laptop to my phone and use it as a hotspot on 5G, I get a constant 3-4Mbps download speed from steam, which is hugely faster that what I get with VM, and proves there is nothing wrong with the laptop. Also if i connect to the superhub via 2.4G wifi, the download speed is a lot better, as the max speed I can get is about 40-50Mbps, and I can download at 5-6Mbps from steam. It only happens when Im connected at the full 500Mbps speed, that the download drops to only 15-20kbps. I can do speed tests all day and night, and it shows im getting 500Mbps download and 50Mbps upload. This is because it only takes 10-20 seconds to carry out the test, so it does not show the drop in speed when to try downloading for longer. but as soon as I start to download anything that will take longer than 20-30 sec to download, the speed drops down to almost nothing (15-20Kbps). If I pause the download, then do a speedtest straight away, im only getting 0.1Mbps. Wait a minute or so, run the same test again, and im back up to 500Mbps.

So explain yourself whats the problem here🙄
Maybe VM screwed up the rate limiter in the hub with a firmware update

Not what you suggested.

"Im only getting full speed downloading for about 20 seconds, after that the downloads throttles back about 15-20Kbps. " The only thing I have seen like this was the sender limiting the transfer.

Not possible as if I drop my connection speed down by connecting to wifi @ 2.4Ghz, which gives me a download speed of about 60Mbps, then my transfer speed goes up to about 5-6Mbps. It only when the download connection gets to around 350Mbps or above, that the download drops to around 15-20kbps. And it happens on multiple sites, including Microsoft download of windows 11 iso. I still think its the superhub 3 not being able to cope with a high constant download speed.

If it was a rate limiter, then it would kick in almost straight away. It takes a good 20-30 seconds of downloading at about 50-55Mbps, before it drastically drops to around 15-20kbps. I think its a firmware or design flaw in the SH3, that cant cope with the high constant throughput and throttles back.
