PS4 speed issue with Hub 3.0

Hi, I recently moved to Virgin and everything is going well so far except the PS4. I tried connecting with Ethernet, I get around 150 mbp download and 3 mbp upload. Same with wireless. I keep lagging a lot and I need help with this.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

  • Hi AHuss786,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our Community Forums! 🤗

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying our services but understand you may be having an issue with your PS4 console.

One thing to know is that the speed test via the console is not reliable and sometimes shows a lower speed than what you're actually getting.

If you could do a Speed Test on a mobile/tablet/laptop near the PS4 and post the results, we can then take a look at the actual speeds to see if there is an issue.

A wired speed test would be best via a laptop if possible as this will give you a fully reliable result.

I have taken a look at your services on my side and can see your speeds to your Hub are good, although you've had a couple of small disconnections.

    Thanks,

    Meg

93.68Mb/s Download is about the maximum for a 100Mb/s Ethernet cable connection.
26.27Mb/s Upload is fine, assuming you are on M250.

I read the PS4 has a 10/100/1000 Ethernet adaptor so perhaps there is a 10/100 switch
or a defective network cable limiting the download speed.

If you can get the PS4 connected to the VM Hub at 1000Mb/s,
re-run the speed test and see if the download figures improve.

Normally on the PS4 i get 200+ mbp and yes im on M250. I don’t have a 1 Gig network so I won’t be able to rerun tests

Thanks for coming back to me Ahuss786, that speed test isn't showing the best speeds which must be frustrating for you.

Thankfully, I've taken a second look at your services this morning and my system is now showing a lot of issues with your Hub's specs.

This could be the root cause of the issue so I am keen to get it fixed via an engineer visit.

I'll send you a PM now to get it booked in 👨‍🔧

        Speak soon!

So how is the PS4 "normally connected" that results in seeing 200Mb/s + ?

Wired connection. It goes up and down. When i first installed the Ethernet, it was running normal speeds. Which is 200+ mbp download but the upload speed was bad.

It important to find out if "slow speed" is a VM service issue or is related to the device / applications being used.

Install the app Samknows Realspeed on a mobile or tablet,
this will enable testing of the service speed to the VM Hub as well as the speed from the Hub to your device.

Well, I tested the WiFi wirelessly and it’s perfectly fine. During gaming I get packet loss and I test the connection and it shows 3-4 mbp upload or even 6+ upload speed but I still lag. So I don’t know what’s the root of the issue. I play with Ethernet too.

        Hi there AHuss786

Thank you for popping back to us and I am so sorry to hear that this has happened again. I have checked everything on our side and I cannot see any issues that may be causing this, to confirm is the only device you are noticing an issue on?

"During gaming I get packet loss"  ... i.e. the game and / or it's servers are the problem.

As is so often the situation with PC & Console games, this is not and ISP issue.

      Hello AHuss786.

if the service is okay other than gaming then it will be the gaming servers that are causing the lag and speed issues.
