No Modem Mode on Fibre Hub (Ireland)

Hi,

I have just been told by tech support that the new Fiber Hub for full fibre service in Ireland cannot be switched to Mode Mode... I searched on this forum and the issue seems to persist since months and months. Anyone knows when a fix is planned to be put in place? Honestly unacceptable... Thanks a mil

Hi gianmini

VM Ireland is run as a completely separate business, so sadly these forums and the forum staff don't have access to any VM Ireland plans or systems, and so would be unable to state when modem mode would be made available.   Heck we don't even know if/when it will be made available for VM UK.

Thanks a mil, sorry I thought both UK and Ireland were handled in this forum.

any workaround implemented in the UK for this limitation?

thanks

Hi again @gianmini

A WiFi Router / Mesh can be used in access point mode as a workaround until VM offer Modem Mode for Hub 5x

Other forum users have tried http://192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode   however VM's systems haven't made that page accessable yet and it isn't shown in the hub5x settings menu.

I believe you need to contact VM Ireland and get your Hub put into IPv4 only mode.  This should bring back modem mode.  Modem mode is disabled in Ireland as they use IPv6 and IPv4, so modem mode is not an option by default.  Unless of course you are talking about the Hub5x, in which case I don’t know if the above applies. 🤔

Thanks both for the answers. 2 questions:

1) assuming asking to the moved to IPV4 is an option, would it significantly impact my internet performance?

2) instead of “modem mode”, what if I simply disabled both 2.4 and 5 ghz Wi-Fi antennas from the fiber hub menu? Would it be a good compromise or modem mode also has other positive impacts?

thanks

Simply tag your WAN port on whatever you want to connect to it as vLAN 10 and use DHCP and it'll work. You can get rid of the Hub5x altogether.

By the way this is only if your Fibre connection comes in through a SIRO branded box.
